ANDERSON EYES STARS THREE-PEAT IN 2013

By: Michael Guglielmucci

Morris, IL—Joliet, IL native Jim Anderson is no stranger to being in the spotlight every Saturday night in the summer at the Grundy County Speedway. The 18 year veteran and 2-time defending D’Arcy GMC Short Track Auto Racing Series Champion will have a brighter spotlight on him this season. Anderson will be looking to defend his title once again and become a three-time and only champion to date in the STARS National Midget Division in 2013. “I don’t feel any added pressure. Each race we go out to do our job, and that’s to win. We do our job and the points will take care of themselves”, Anderson stated. Looking to top Anderson will be last year’s runner up, Patrick Wilda Jr. as well as 2012 Rookie of the Year, Austin Prock. Prock struggled for the better part of the season but was able to find the setup and make a run for the top in the final weeks, finishing on the podium in two of the final three races. Anderson will be looking to remain the only driver to win on opening night, having won the previous two season openers.

The Illini Racing Series Sportsman Midgets will also kick off their 2013 pavement portion of the schedule, having competed on dirt the past three races. Series favorites and 2012 Grundy winners, Mike Anderson, Sean Murphy and Patrick Bruns will look to park their cars in victory lane again at the famed 1/3 mile oval. The prelude to the National Midget Feature is always a fan favorite with its high car counts and wheel to wheel racing from flag to flag. It is sure to put the fans on the edge of their seats.

The cars and stars of the D’Arcy GMC Short Track Auto Racing Series will kick off their season on June 1, 2013 at the Grundy County Speedway in Morris, IL with the gates opening at 5:00 pm and first race at 6:30. Many new sponsors have signed on to help enhance the racing this year to make midget racing at Grundy County a must see event each Saturday night in the summer.
