I'm thinking there's a few factors to weigh in. Some tracks have curfews so keeping the show moving for the cut off time and getting a good show for the fans so they aren't driving home in the early morning hours. The second is the added wear and tear on equipment. If they were 50 laps long, that's almost two races a night and that added wear and tear adds to higher operating costs for sure. Some of the cars run 40-50 shows per year @ 20-30 lap shows. There would be a lot of equipment failures if they ran 50 laps all the time. Just my .02.....

Back in the 70's and 8o's we ran twin 50's at the Indy Mile , Eldora, and Salem. Almost all other features were 40 lappers in USAC.
Remember this though, all we ran were 305's. |

i get there may be some more wear and tear but dirt late models do 50 and 100 lap races and get people out at reasonable times and race just as much. this isnt a complaint i was just wondering so thanks with your answers

The track itself could be an issue. Some tracks can barely hold up for 30 laps.

The over whelming fact is, it has been found humanly impossible to hold your breath for 7-8 minutes, which is about the length of time it takes to go from green to checkers in a wire to wire sprint car race, plus the fact, it is a Sprint race, not a dragged out endurance, figure 8 race. I think it is a mute question! Bob

They do, and most of them are boring, to be honest, the "sprint" is what makes it exciting, and being behind the wheel with 800+ hp at your command, says it all, if God intended man to enjoy anything more, he kept it for himself! Bob
