...on if they should run an aluminum or steel 410 (i.e. sprint car) engine in the Silver Crown Series? Would the racing be better or worse or no difference? Would the speeds go up? How would the cost change? Engine life of a 410 in 100 mile races? Could teams that run both SC and sprints save money with a common engine? Would the engines be interchangable from a sprint to SC? I'm thinking no on this question but - can you take an SC car and unbolt the current engine and just bolt in a 410?
What are the pluses? What are the minuses? Thanks |

One difference I can see is being able to repair the aluminum block instead of junking the iron block after a catastrophic blowup. The aluminum block is more expensive, but not a whole lot. I think a std weight aluminum block is between $4000 & $4500, while a Dart iron block is around $2500 or so. I'm sure someone here can give more accurate figures, but I think they're close. However, I'm guessing most SC teams start a race with a fresh motor, so to stick in a 410 sprint motor (which would be cammed wrong for a mile track) that had say 5 shows on it-would you trust it to make it 100 miles? Also, I think the oil pans are different for the pavement cars anyway. Anyone else?

Why not an Aluminum 355? I believe the aluminum block would help as far as repairs go, but the horse is out of the barn. Everyone has the steel block and for the mosy part, it isn't the cost of the block or motor for that matter that is holding teams from the track. Energy costs are going to make many teams pick and choose where and when they race because it is hard to put together a purse that makes it beneficial for teams from all over to go to all of the races. That and many of the owners are still stinging from a few years ago and it will take some time to win them back.
Problem with a 410 motor is the amount of fuel you would use on the miles and the speed would be somewhat greater. They are already running fast enough as it is and fuel milage is tight as well. I don't see how the racing would be better. Most teams have the motors gone through between each race. As the other poster mentioned; the motors(Sprint/Silver Crown) are built differently because it is different racing. |

They all have 355's now and for the 100 laps and fuel mileage would have to stay with that size of a motor.I just want to see more of the silver crown cars on the dirt half-mile tracks can not wait until July 23 race at the action track.
