It was neat hearing Pat Sullivan do the opening ceremonies for the NASCAR race today. At least it sounded like him. Our local speedways should be proud to have an anouncer like him.

My five year old, Sam, recognized his voice from spending Friday's next door at the Bloomington Speedway.

Thanks for the kind words - I'm typing from Novota Ca right now - actually one of the most fun moments was doing the poll award with Kasey and it was a funny seeing the look on his face when he walked up and saw me standing there - he did a double take - the people here are great - but the fact is nothing beats midget, sprint and Silver Crown racing

Pat,
One of my favorite pics is of you in the old scoring stand at the Rushville fairgrounds interviewing a very young Tony Stewart. One of my favorite keepsakes is the video tape a friend did that night I "raced" a TQ at Greensburg because it picks up your voice on the loudspeaker.
To those wondering about the quote marks around raced, I looked pretty good in practice and then the rains came. We raced a couple of days later on a much different track. I qualified poorly, spun out twice in my heat and melted down the engine in the semi-feature in Lynn Ambrose's car that Stewart was supposed to race a couple of nights later due to a rookie mistake.
But, how many other writers or photographers can say the scored points in UMRA, drove a Steve Stapp sprinter at Bloomington during a media day and got a couple of laps around IMS as a passenger in a pace car. I still have the trophy Ronnie Ambrose gave me after HE won his heat race.
Most of all, I still remember your voice over that old county fairgrounds track in Greensburg wishing me well as I left my native Hoosier state to a new job in Iowa.

bigmojo5 I remember that night myself. I drove you home after the races and I remember your little ford packed to the gills.

Here is a funny one -- I have a picture of me intervieiwng Tony at Rushville I would bet it was that very one you mention Jim- for those that don't know this story I announced Tony's first sprint car win at I-44 Speedway in Missouri and we met in victory lane (that's another story which Bones Boucier finally told in his book on Tony) - Tony later helped me get the job with UMRA when I first moved to Indy. So this picture is one of my favorites. So a couple of my students came into my office and one of them sees the picture and says "Oh my God" and of course, I think they recongize Tony. So I said - yeah that's Tony when he was pretty young - and one of the students said "No, I can't believe you had hair and it was really black"

yeah. I was advised by a certain racing sheriff that I should probably improve my visibility in the rearview mirror just a little bit. My new boss in Iowa asked me if it was still worth it.
You betcha.

Bigmojo5 it's really funny that this came up as I was going through some old racing papers the other day and came across my "Autographed" copy of the Greensburg paper you were in concerning that particular night. If you ever make it down Tennessee way (Gatlinburg) look me up.
