found this picure on the web sometime ago (sorry can't take credit - it's little before my time ) looks like there might be a photographer in the ( black shirt ), in front of the crew member telling his driver he's number 1, LOL, enjoy!

I've read that this is Chuck Booth signaling Wally Meskowski.

Midget driver using "Universal Salute". What's the deal? Only old black and white photos? Drivers no longer share the "You are number one" signal???

They still do it but with all the bodywork and such its just harder to see. Plus not that easy to just stick your arm out of the cars anymore. Them photes is cool, it brings back memories of Flemington Speedway. I'd always stand first turn inside, the cars would go by at well over a hundred mph just inches away.
