FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DICK JORDAN 13-1

TICKETS ON SALE NOW!
NEW THURSDAY DATE SET FOR 2013 HOOSIER HUNDRED
MAY 23, 2013

Crowds are expected to climb in 2013 for one of America’s most prestigious dirt-track motorsports events – the “Hoosier Hundred.” The event, annually held at the Indiana State Fairground’s one-mile dirt oval, brings with it a tremendous amount of excitement and wheel-to-wheel USAC racing on Thursday, May 23, 2013.

Race organizer Bob Sargent, who also organizes Traxxas USAC Silver Crown races at Terre Haute, Ind. plus Springfield and DuQuoin, Ill., is making the major change for the 60th running of the 100-mile race at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The change from the previous Friday schedule should allow more race fans to attend the race, minimizing conflicts with May-time activities surrounding the Indianapolis 500, which include numerous Midwestern Sprint car events.

One conflict which will be avoided is the traditional Friday “carburetion day” activity at IMS, which also involves the Freedom 100 for the Indy Lights. Also, this will allow Track Enterprises to work closely with the local race tracks in the area by not running on the same night.

“We’ve thought about this for several years,” says Sargent. “The schedule now dictates that a Thursday night Hoosier Hundred will best serve the participants and race fans and we look forward to augmenting the tradition of this spectacular event.”

The Hoosier Hundred dates back to 1953 and began in September. It moved to May and has been a Friday fixture for many years. This year it’s part of the 11-race Traxxas Silver Crown Championship Series which starts in May and ends in September.

“The 2013 Traxxas Silver Crown Series will include a number of new innovations and events,” adds series director James Spink. “The move to the Thursday slot for the Hoosier Hundred makes perfect sense and we welcome it as we continue the great tradition this series has built. The Hoosier Hundred has a rich history and its place in the week prior to the Indianapolis 500 gives it the chance to attract an international audience.”

Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. is the defending winner of the Hoosier Hundred and hopes to be the third driver to win three in a row. Coons won in 2011 and 2012, while Al Unser won four straight from 1970-1973 and Jimmy Brywn won from 1954-1956.

To purchase tickets call Track Enterprises at 217.764.3200. For more information visit www.hoosier100.com.

Same here. I work 15 minutes away so great for me. Those that don't like it...look at it this way...you can go to Bloomington/Gas City that Friday night...neither are far from Indy.

I think when they moved carb-day to friday it hurt the mile a little. they can't get much smaller crowds than they have had the past few years. Just have to leave a day earlier for Terre Haute.

Even if they put this race on a Monday at 4 am, I will be there. The Hoosier 100 is always a highlite of my racing year and i think i have been to every one (the first one at only 11 months old though). Even if the car count is low, the rumble of the USAC Silver Crown cars is worth the price of admission. I just hope they bring back the tent party again this year, bob.

I think you're going to lose a lot of "travelers" that come from a ways away. Especially if those people have jobs and will have to take an extra day off to attend, another night in a motel, etc....

I love this race and I look forward to it every year, but I won't be able to attend this year due to this change.

I love this race and I look forward to it every year, but I won't be able to attend this year due to this change.

And on the other hand there will be travelers that like the change. I used to be one of those far away travelers, and my vacation plans were made around how many races I could cram in to any given time frame for a vacation.

The way I see it,even though I now live here,is all week long that week you can go to a race every night for about 9 days straight if you are so inclined, and even cram in 2 races in a few of those days.

I'm sure others that read this forum wish they had it so rough......

Ask for an extra day or 2 off work.
