I've seen a few posts here about model building and I've seen a few posts here mentioning older dirt modified racing. If your a fan of both (or one or the other) check this out.

I got a big kick out of it as East Windsor was the first track I ever went to as a kid and have spent many a Friday and Sunday nights there watching these very cars. Great fun!

You mean the "Frankie Schneider Benefit Races".:O: I spent about 40 years chasing modified racing - both dirt & asphalt - in the Northeast before moving to Indiana in 2004. The old coupe days were the best, for sure. I have been a visitor to "3Wides" for a long time as has been my brother Russ. Great stuff on there.:thumb

That was cool who ever took the time to put all them together and build the track did a good job. That must have took a while.

I remember every one of those cars. The #54 was owned by A.T. Consoli. the late father of our own Al Consoli on this board. Bobby Gerhardt Sr. and Dick Tobias both drove that car to many wins over the years. The #72 was Pee Wee Griffin, one of many Floridians to invade the north every year. The S1 was Jackie Moschera, son of Augie Moschera. Jackie won the first race he ever ran in at the Old Bridge Stadium on April 26, 1964. It was opening day and it was in the novice division. The #666 at that time was Bobby Bottcher. He had raced with this team beginning in the sportsman division at Nazareth and had many duels with Zorro Engler in that class. And the Fodor #13 was driven by Sammy Beavers and then Joe Kelly. Great memories!

Drove up to Reading, Pa to see the 7/31/71 USAC race won by Larry Cannon in the Hoffman #71. We went up a day early just to catch the mods on the flat 1/2 mile. Rained out , (that's bad). There was some kind of fair going on with about 6 different beer stands (that's good). Each had a different food specialty (sea food, chicken, burgers, etc.) and each had different live music (rock 'n roll, country, polka, etc.).

Never made it back for a mod race. Are these the kind of cars we would have seen but for the bad weather? If so, I hate that we missed them. Who might we have seen driving them?

In '71 at Reading, Marv, you would have seen Gerald Chamberlain, Kenny Brightbill, Dick Tobias, Bobby Gerhardt Sr., Glenn & Paul Fitzcharles, Bobby Hauer, Johnny Botz, Freddy Adam, Dick Quallio, and at least 40 others. Reading typically drew 50 plus modifieds per night. I believe that 1971 was the year that Chamberlain won an incredible 31 features combined between Friday & Sunday nights driving the Joe Bullock #76.

Well, I only made it to Reading a few times for modified shows, and a couple of USAC shows... the Reading boys were special - DickTobias, Kenny Weld, Bobby Gerhart, Gerry Chamberlain, and way too many others that I can't recall. But the racing was outstanding, and Lindy Vicari(the promoter) ran a mean grader/tiller. Reading had one of the most consistently outstanding surfaces that I've ever seen on any dirt track...

And they tore it down to build a mall....
