Salem Speedway is privileged to announce that Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer has been named Grand Marshall of the Sept. 15th Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic. Meyer, a United States Marine Corps veteran, was awarded the highest military decoration for his actions during the Battle of Ganjgal on Sept. 8, 2009, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Kunar province, Afghanistan. Meyer is also planning on making his racing debut on Sept. 15th competing with the Lucas Oil Great American Stocks in the Federated Car Care 50, a prelude to the ARCA 200.

Read Sgt. Meyer's citation. These brave Americans that receive this honor are truly the greatest among us.

Thanks for sharing High Banks and Jerry, I am always glad to hear when a race track honors someone willing to put their life on the line to defend our freedom. Dakota Meyer sounds like a remarkable young man, reading his citation was the second time today I was reminded how much our military families scarifice for our freedom.

Today about noon time the news broke that a family in Oswego, N. Y. is paying the ultimate price. Specialist Kyle R. Rookey 23 died over the weekend in Afghanistan from a non-combat related incident, he had been stationed at Fort Carson, Colo.; he leaves behind a wife and young baby that will never have a chance to know it's father. The unfortunate sad news that so many of our military families receive.

RIP Kyle
