HELBERG LEADS XTREME SPRINT SERIES TO CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWDOWN
HOLLY, Mich. – California star JoJo Helberg
carries the point lead to the championship
event of the Xtreme Sprint Series 2012
campaign this weekend, with three other
drivers nipping at his heels in the title
hunt. The TruFuel Must See Racing
Xtreme Sprint Series will travel to the
historic Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan
this Saturday, Aug. 25.
Helberg, of Rohnert Park, Calif., hopes to
erase the stinging disappointment of 2011,
when he narrowly missed in his quest for
a title while finishing third just eight points
behind eventual champion Troy DeCaire. Helberg bolstered his title hopes with a win at
Anderson Speedway this past weekend, and hopes to carry that momentum to Michigan.
Jacob Wilson of Crawfordsville, Ind. rides second in the standings, just 38 points behind Helberg. Lurking in third is Jason Cox of Park City, Ill., just 12 points behind Wilson. The title is also within reach of fourth-place Brian Olson, Indianapolis, who comes to Berlin just eight points behind Cox.
It has been a season of intense competition for the Xtreme sprint cars, with eight different winners in a dozen events. DeCaire, Olson, Brian Gerster, and Jason Blonde have each scored two wins, while Tanner Swanson, Aaron Pierce, Jimmy McCune, and Helberg have also visited victory lane.
Record-setting speed has also been the hallmark for the series in 2012. Track records have been shattered at nearly every stop, and a blistering flag-to-flag run at Winchester Speedway by the entire field this past weekend was unprecedented.
The Engine Pro “Fast Car Slash” opens with the first round of practice at 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a full program of time trials and heat races that evening, capped by a 30-lap showdown on the sweeping paved oval. At night’s end the 2012 XSS champion will be crowned.
The event will be broadcast on national television on a variety of sports networks, casting a digital presence across America. XSS cars are officially the “World’s Fastest Short Track Cars,” drawing fans and viewership from across the country to see the cars racing at over 150 mph on some of the most prestigious tracks in America.
