All Roads Lead to Lincoln, IL Friday August 17th; For the Start of a Huge Racing Weekend

(Macon, IL) POWRi’s Lucas Oil National Midget Series and Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series are cocked and ready to do battle at two of the series most competitive dirt ovals.
On Friday Night, August 17th, the two series head to the racy ¼ mile at the Logan County fairground track, Lincoln Speedway. Danny Stratton won the POWRi Midget event there in June, with 13 year old Justin Peck picking up the win in Micros, becoming the youngest winner ever in POWRi Micros! Also on tap will be the UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks and 4-cylinders.
NASCAR Star Kenny Wallace will be on hand Friday night at Lincoln Speedway doing battle in his UMP Open Wheel Modified.
Then on Saturday Night, August 18th, POWRi Midgets and Micros will heat up the action at “World’s Fastest 1/5 mile”, Macon Speedway for the ninth annual “Dana Godfrey Memorial”. The event pays tribute to the late wife of Midget chassis builder John Godfrey. Dave Darland won last year’s Dana Godfrey Memorial. The two series have raced twice previously at Macon this season with Zach Daum and Bubba Altig grabbing Midget wins. Micro victories at the fast fifth went to Alex Harris and Aaron Andruskevitch.
With both tracks being racy bullrings at Lincoln Speedway and Macon Speedway, action should be thrilling. Don’t miss this action packed week-end of Open Wheel racing!
Tickets are only $15 with kids 11 & under FREE! Gates open at 5pm with racing action getting under way at 7pm!

WHat else is running at Macon with the midgets and 600s?? Website says regular weekly show. Then it says UMP street stocks...even elsewhere with the scrolling banner it says hornets (2 classes) and street stocks. So what really is running there??

I really hope someone had a camera on the finish at Lincoln tonight. Coming out of turn 4 on the last lap, I didn't know whether BC, Shu, Jerry or Rico would win. BC was up top, Shu on the bottom, Jerry somewhere in the middle and Rico trying to shoot the gap for the victory. What a race! At the finish line I still didn't know who won, BC or Shu. Joe (I Miss Manzy) and I looked at each other and just shrugged our shoulders. They announced that BC won in the #39, Shu in the black #2, and I still don't know who got third and forth.

If you like racing, you really should come to Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois when POWRi is there. Really nice covered fairgrounds grandstand, cheap concessions ($1 water, $2 hot dogs), super-nice people, excellent track taken care of by people who obviously know how to do it and great racing. I loved the modifieds and those who know me realize how good it must have been for me to say that about modifieds. For anyone who may have forgotten why Kenny Wallace is in NASCAR, he started 10th in his heat, got to 4th just as a yellow came out, had to go back to 5th with one lap to go, and split two cars coming out of turn 4 and finished 3rd. Started the feature on the pole, got over a straightaway lead, had a flat, restarted in 16th with perhaps 10 or so laps to go, and finished 3rd. Five more laps and he would have won.

Great little 1/4 mile black dirt track.

Yes it was a great finish and I agree I was not sure who had really won the race. The modifieds have been putting on a great show for the fans every week since opening night. Track was a little rough last night but, that has not been the norm this year. The track crew usually has a very good racing surface almost every week for the drivers to race on.

Thanks for letting me know I made the WRONG choice last night, Frank ! I decided to do something totally different, and went and watched bike racing at Mid America Speedway, here in Indianapolis. While it was ok,it fell way short in the excitement level that you are describing, and that I have seen for myself many times watching POWRi midgets, about anywhere they run. The wallet is thin this week, and I didnt want to dip into the rainy day fund. I reasoned, that if I stayed in Indy last night I would save at least $40 if not more in fuel money by staying local in Indy rather than to travel to either Friday night track in Indiana,or beyond.

Some people think I have an "in" with POWRi. Not at all. I talk them up because they have both good car counts, a well run program, and good racing. What more can you ask for?

Glad to see you guys saw a thriller last night !

After looking,I see that Rico started 9th,BC started 12th,and Coons started 13th. Shuman started on the pole, and there were no slugs in between either!
