Neither Sammy nor Steve made it through the B Main at the Nationals. Steve had qualified for 34 straight A Mains and Sammy is way up there, too. Sounds like the B Main was a heck of a race.

STP or not, We will look back at this result on 8-11-12 as the beginning of the decline in the phenomenal national popularity of the WoO Sprint Car Series. It has been a great ride. Long live the King!

I don't believe I'd be putting those two out to pasture just yet.

Both had lousy qualifying nights that set them back. Sammy and Steve will be in the championship hunt till the end and I expect them both to come back to Knoxville on a mission next year. These boys won't leave on a sour note like this.

Drove up to Knoxville yesterday from Indy. Racing was great, atmosphere was great. When they took our tickets to go to our seats, the guy actually thanked us for coming. I don't think there's any chance of WoO popularity dying off because those two didn't make the race. If you were there, you would've heard how loud the crowd was when Brian Brown was catching Schatz towards the end of the race. I would say if anything, it just stands for how tough the competition was this weekend. It wasn't just Swindell and Kinser to not make the feature, there were multiple quality cars and drivers that didn't make the race. They also talked about how excited they were for the partnership with STP next year, about trying to promote the races and going to the cities ahead of time, in order to create a greater knowledge about WoO and sprint car racing in general.

The folks at Knoxville know how to hold an event, prepare a track and obtain funding/advertising, actually they have for years. Clydsdale couldn't have said it better.
No doubt people headed home excited and talking about what they saw. |
