Did anyone notice that of the 16 cars (only 15 in the feature) in the Silver Crown race at Iowa on Friday night, 9 of them were owned by multiple-car teams, and only 6 were single car teams? It looks like there were 16 cars there, but only 15 in the feature.

Team 6R - 5 cars
Stewart/Curb-Agajanian - 2 cars
RW - 2 cars

There were only 6 single car teams in attendance:
A.J. Fike, 3, RFMS
Bud Kaeding, 29, BK
Jacob Wilson, 07, WBR
Russ Gamester, 51, Gamester
Jimmy Kite, 25, Sachs
Zach Daum, 50, Daum
Tracy Hines, 16, Lightfoot

So there was a total of 10 teams at Iowa, and nearly 2/3 of the cars were owned by 1 of 3 teams. Interesting.

Does anyone know how many cars finished the race?

The more I see the car counts, I am beginning to realize , if you've never seen big cars run, go now. I have a feeling you may not see them again after this season.I hope I'm wrong, but I'm starting to feel less confident about their survival.

The question "why do we need them?" and "how do we do away with them?" still linger in the wind! The leader at usac will have no remorse when he kills off the second (pavement sprint cars) long standing tradition of USAC. He may use the same letters but passion is long gone!

Sharon, thanks for the info; somehow clicking on likes this post didn't seem appropriate. While the info was greatly appreciated by me, it is sad to see how the Silver Crown car count has continued to decline since you & I first met some 9 or 10 yesars ago. Back when 50 plus cars would show up where ever they went. It will be a sad day if as someone else posted in this thread they are gone at the end of the year.

Wishing you the best of luck in your future racing Shraon,

Patti

Patti,

I hope the leaders at USAC can figure out a way to grow this series back to how it was just a few short years ago. I only started racing about 10 years ago, and I remember my first year as an owner that there were over 60 cars trying to qualify for 30 spots at the Copper World Classic in Phoenix. I remember two B Mains at IRP. I was doing some research a few days ago, and saw that there were 45 cars at the Hoosier 100 in 2005. That was only 7 years ago.

I remember when we raced at Syracuse. The pits were full and the stands were packed. What happened?

Pavement sprint cars were off the National points for at least a handful of years in the 80's

The 100 miler at Springfield is the second oldest race in America next to only the Indy 500 and the only one still running on its original day and time. Hopefully someone will at least keep that one going even without USAC.
