Grassroots Racing Showcases Next Step for Karters and Quarter Midget Drivers
Mini Sprints and TQ Midgets are an excellent next step for karters, quarter midget drivers and even fans looking to get involved in open wheel racing. This coming weekend (Friday May 30th and Saturday May 31st) promises to be a great weekend for anyone considering either of the two classes to see what it’s all about. The Grassroots Racing Revival is a weekend series for the American Mini Sprint Association (AMSA) upright mini sprints and the United Midget Racing Association (UMRA) three quarter midgets that will spotlight the two classes on two very different Indiana ovals. Friday night’s race at the Ripley County Fairgrounds represents a step back in time on the flat fairgrounds quarter mile dirt track, while Saturday evening is on the ultra-fast, banked oval at Twin Cities Raceway Park. A champion in each class will be crowned as the result of points earned from the two races. The inaugural event at Ripley County Fairgrounds in 2007 delivered action packed racing in both classes. Last year’s AMSA winner, Jason Soudrette’s roots could be traced back to a career in go-karts that included several wins at the Ripley County Fairgrounds. Although Soudrette is planning on running a full size sprint car in 2008, he hopes to make several returns to mini sprint action throughout the year. Dustin Hueston is a quarter midget driver that has enjoyed success in mini sprint action most recently earning a victory in the opening round of the AMSA’s 2008 season. A quick glance through both classes will reveal many talented drivers that started in either go-karts or quarter midgets. Likewise, both classes have several graduates that they can be proud of including former UMRA competitor Tony Stewart and recent Little 500 winner Shane Cottle who also won several AMSA championships. Admission to the grandstands for the opening night of the Grassroots Racing Revival at the Ripley County Fairgrounds in Osgood, Indiana is $7.00 for adults and $3 for children 6-12 years of age. The gates open at 4:00 P.M. with racing starting at 7:00 P.M. Osgood is approximately a 1 hour drive from either Cincinnati or Indianapolis:

I assume that the standard AMSA purse applies - $500 to win
