Let's be honest, for about 75% of the crowd, that is the only race they will see all year (probably higher than that). I know many people that sit around us just go because of the event, they don't see any type of racecar turn another wheel all year. The racing itself isn't the draw for them. So having other events to entertain those people is fine to me. I'm interesting in tailgating and racing on race day. I personally don't care about anything else, but many are just there for the event. Indy has always been bigger than just the race itself.

The Snake Pit will never be what it was no matter what they do. That's probably good on some levels and not good on others.

LOL, This isn't and will never be the SNAKE PIT that once existed.

This is a controlled family venue. THE SNAKE PIT WAS ANYTHING BUT!

I thought the snake pit was in the turn 1 exit, 1st shortchute area...

Body Painting, go-go dancers...It appears they want people to THINK the pit is back in all its glory... maybe they should schedule the "Girls Gone Wild" bus to be there to get people in the spirit.....hahahahahahaha

The Snake Pit started in turn one and ended up in turn 4 after IMS started using the infield in turn 1 as a parking lot. That was in the early 1990's.

I don't remember a lot about the "snake pit". I did spend a lot of time there as a youngster but for some reason I just don't remember much about what whent on there. I kinda of remember turn # 1, I don't remember wrist bands and concerts. I do remember mud holes, and coolers of beverages, something to do with wet T shirts and peak a boo blankets. People eating sugar cubes and trying to fly off the out house roofs, yes "those were the days my friend".

The kids of today have no idea about the old "snake pit". Tony didn't like it and killed it (TOO CRUDE), I guess new management saw a chance to make more money off the old name and figured the old participants were too old to say much of anything about it and the kids would just eat it up and spend more money at the track.

Yeh I think that's how it was in my dreams? I used to live on 20th street in speedway and just walked to the track and staggered home. The "Snake Pit" was an education in itself.
