For today's Video of the Day, it's a USAC Sprint Car Series feature that took place on May 5, 1999 at the oddly-shaped Louisville Motor Speedway. The track no longer exists, but it was home to a certain driver's only career USAC National Sprint Series feature victory on this night.
Enjoy!! |

I saw a number of races at the old Louisville Motor Speedway. A very unique little bullring that does indeed remind me of Kil Kare as well. The front stretch saw the racecars go downhill while the back part of the track was D shaped and went uphill. Never did quite figure out how many turns this track had.

That's kinda the way Benton Cty was, before they "unpaved" it, had almost a roadcourse feel to it, at least 6 bends, and 3 elevation changes, and super slippery when the fog rolled in! Bob!

I don't think anybody really ever found the grove for that track. You could stand in the pits and hear the tire squeeling going through turn 4or 5 or 6 what ever the turn was that ran into the front stretch. The guy that I thought drove it the best was Chet Phillips he sure was smooth there. A track that will not be missed. Honest Dad himself ![]() ![]() |
