Hey all, I am Brett Davis and I am the publicity director for a quarter midget track in Taylorville, Illinois, CCQMA. Every year we have a race in the horse coliseum at the state fairgrounds in Springfield. We as a club had the idea of having our upcoming coliseum race be a tribute to Joe Shaheen and the old Little Springfield racetrack. Does anybody know of any members of the Shaheen family that are still around? We'd like to invite him or her out and have a blast from the past kind of thing. Anything is appreciated! Thanks!

Our family raced there from 1968 until it closed. Best I remember was that Joe only had a sister, she was the one who closed the track down and sold the property after Joe died. She died shortly after. Neither had any siblings.
You can check with Nancy Standridge of MOWA in Springfield. She is working on a travelng, mini replica display of Springfield Speedway. I'm sure she would know of any relatives, if any are left.

I know Ralph Shaheen on SPEED isn't a relative. I asked him at the Hoosier Hundred why the family sold the track. I said that it sucked. Ralph said Foyt told him the same thing. He then told me he was no relation.
