We are trying to come up with a new way to do line ups from heats to feature and I was wondering after seeing all the different ways to do them what everyone thinks is the best way? Pee pick, invert, dice, combination of everything, something esle? We will not have the luxury of time trials.
Thanks |

i like the 2 heat format but drivers and owners usually hate it......draw for heat start 1st heat heads up 2nd heat complete invert of starting lineup 1pt for 1st 2 for 2nd and so on lowest points on pole of feature

Pee pick is quick, easy and fair. Avoid temptation to cheat by filling heats with lowest number starting pole 1st heat, second lowest number starting starting 2nd in 1st heat and 3rd lowest number starts 3rd in 1st heat. Most do line ups as 1st low number has pole in 1st heat and second lowest number has pole in 2nd heat. It is pretty easy to figure that any low number will get you a front row start.

All the local tracks in my area line up the heats inverted by season points. The feature is lined up the same way or there is a re draw among top 12 heat finishers. Contact Shane Davis through the Rock Island Ill. County Fairgrounds for more info if interested. Their system works great IMO.

The whole idea of a draw is to try to get the lowest number, so it is best to do pill 1, would be pole of the 1st Heat and pill 2, would be pole of the 2nd Heat and so on. Make sure you use a bingo ball mixer to mix the pills well and roll it twice all the way around and then drop one out. Do this the same for everyone and it's fair. Take the Top 2 or 3 finishers in the Heats, depending on how many Heats you have to run, and have those guys redraw a pill to see where they start in the Dash. The Dash will decide the first few rows of the A-Main. The rest of the field starts straight-up by where they finished their Heat and the B-Main transfers start straight-up after them.

the draw works good for the guys that are good at drawing .
some guys can not draw a good number for the life of them if you get a good number ,then finish 1st or 2nd in the heat you get to draw again , before long they will just draw for the winners. |

Pill draws are the worst. Putting the fastest car on the front row of his heat race always leads to a horible heat race. The only way to make it worse? Put him on the pole for the main event. Another horrible plan is when the field is set by time trials, and the cars from the B-main get thier times back. It always amazed me how someone can win thier heat race, but start behind a car that raced in the B-main.

I kinda like the format where the whole field qualifies to only set your heat race line ups. From there your heat race finishes and B Main finsihes determine where you start in the A.
I also like the format where you divide the field into heat races and then qualify only against those in your heat race. This is used to set heat race lineups and then the finishes determine B and A starting positions. |

I don't like the draw format like the sprint bandits used to use because it puts the fastest 2 cars on the front row for the feature. If they don't catch lapped traffic, the winner dosen't ever have to pass anyone. I like the USAC format. The invert in the heats means the guy who qualifies good has to pass people to earn a good starting spot. And a little guy can start up front and hold 3 guys off and make the feature. Even though he has to start farther back.
