I have been to many race events over the last forty years. Fortunatly there have only a few fatalities I have witnessed. My question has to do with the practice of putting a tarp over the car. I think I know the answer .When did they start doing this , and what are the thoughts behind it?

The reason the 2 cars were tarp is so they don't loose any parts as they transport them to the IRL crash investigation area. And it helps contain fluids from dripping on the racing surface. But mostly to retain the parts as they identify what went wrong, or broke, or whatever.....it just policy and proceedure.
