"God help me, I even love USAC."

And that's the truth.

May we all turn this "mistake" into a lesson learned.

I'm right there with you Mr. Burton. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I have and always will be a cheerleader for USAC I'm not just a fair weather friend. Of course they're not perfect. But what should I do as a fan? Give up on them? Hell no.

We all screw up. USAC maybe more often than they should. But it is still my favorite form of racing regardless of what may happen.

Thanks Danny for the excellent column and better luck next time USAC.

take donations raise the ticket price, or whatever it takes, but get somebody that can work that track properly. I know it's possible I have the track in perfect shape not that long ago.

In agreement as well.

I was initially for the Sunday Day races but not sure I can honestly say I was for it before I was against it. I recall visions of the Hulman Classic run year after year as a day race and can't quite figure out what changed or why it it can't happen again. Then again what I know about track prep I could write on a small post-it note.

I will continue to gladly support USAC, warts and all. Also, with all the mistakes USAC made over the years, none of them involved a certain stock car race a few years ago at IMS where tire wear was horrible and 12 lap green flag intervals was the norm. They didn't sanction an international open wheel race at IMS where most of the teams boycotted and they had something like six starters. They also didn't sanction a big league open wheel race at Texas Motor Speedway that had to be cancelled because drivers were gettting vertigo on account of the G-forces pulled. Hey the big guys screw up too, not just USAC.

Excellent article D.B. I also wish Sundays whatever one choses to call it would fade away and everyone move on.Lately way too much drama, Bloomington isn't kid friendly, Kokomo didn't hot lap, and THAT.Lets MOVE on people, ISW is on the horizon, lets go racing

I will always support USAC and they deserve more chances. A day race can work there but it needs to be in early spring or fall to avoid the extreme sun.

Another great Danny B article. I'm lucky, I get to watch about half or more of the races I see with the author, himself.

Here's a day that I remember like it was yesterday. I remember a bunch of people standing around waiting to meet Grizzly Adams. And more than that, the emergence of James Mc Elreath. It's still so sad that such a bright, shining star would be lost, just a few months later.

Notice how turn one didn't just get rough yesterday. How much of a gentleman Joe Saldana was and is. And also, note the sprint car racing tutorial that the great Chris Economacki gave to the nation, on this race featured on ABC Wide World of Sports:
Part 1

Part 2

Part3
