The Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Vincennes University gears up for Round 2 of their 2011 season on Saturday evening May 28 at the Twin Cities Raceway Park. The 3/8 mile high banked oval in Vernon, Ind. hosts the MTQRL three-quarter midgets three times this year with additional dates on July 30 and August 20.
The MTQRL opened their season two weeks ago at the Shelby County Fairgrounds where Tate Martz took the win over Rick Robinson, Jon Steed, Jake Moore and Chris Mann. Martz, the defending MTQRL champion, has three wins at Twin Cities including his most recent on September 18, 2010 when he took the victory over Jason Willis. Willis hopes to rebound from a disappointing start to the season after he was involved in an opening lap crash that eliminated him from competition. In his first TQ start Moore was named the Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Race. He will be looking to repeat those honors but will have stiff competition from other rookie drivers including Corey Eaglin, Cody Kiewitt and Kyle McIntosh. Also competing on Saturday will be the ILMS crate late models, bombers, super stocks, pure stocks and hornets. The pit gate opens at 3:00 pm, hot laps are at 6:00 pm and racing is set to begin at 6:30 pm. General admission is $12 and pit passes are $30. If you will be travelling to Twin Cities Raceway Park via State Road 3 please be advised that SR-3 is closed to traffic between County Road 500 N and County Road 800 N (2 to 5 miles north of North Vernon) in Jennings County due to bridge construction work.
