Town and Country Lanes Becomes Title Sponsor for Legend Cars

As the 2011 STARS season quickly approaches, final preparations are being made. One of those is a title sponsor. Joliet Town and Country Lanes has signed on to become the title sponsor for the INEX Legend Cars that will be part of the Saturday night program at Grundy County Speedway.

This sponsorship isn’t the first involvement in racing for the Kontos Family. Dating back to the early 90’s at Indianapolis Raceway Park they signed on with Jim Mahoney. But it didn’t stop on the short tracks. Town and Country has even had its name in the Indianapolis 500 in 1999 with driver Donnie Beechler. T&C have been involved in the local spotlight as well. In 1997 they sponsored the late John Myers’ NHRA pro stock motorcycle at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet.

“It’s great to get back involved in racing again” stated George Kontos, owner of Town and Country. “I’ve known Mike (Guglielmucci) for a long time and his passion for racing, especially at the local level, rubbed off on me and I wanted to get involved with the new STARS series in some way.”

“Having George and the great folks at Town and Country come on board is a win-win for everyone” said Mike Guglielmucci of STARS. “Bowling is a family activity, and with one of our main objectives for Saturday nights is making it something for the family to do, they can in turn plan another night out at the lanes!”

The 2011 STARS season kicks off on June 11th at Grundy County Speedway. Gates open at 5:00 pm with the first race beginning at 6:30!
