Every video I watch the track looks like it has black dirt on it?? When did they put that on? I thought it was red clay.

The track takes on rubber as the night progresses, and quite often resembles asphalt in appearance by the later stages of an evening of racing. Such was the case this past Friday.

I know this may sound crazy and I'm no expert on track preparation. But I think one of the main problems, other than not getting enough moisture down in the track during the week, is all the classes of cars they run have wide tires and lots of power. They all spin their tires and leave alot of rubber behind. I think they need a class like the Thunder Cars they run at Gas City and Kokomo. They have skinny tires and little power and they seem to cut the surface up and the moisture comes back to the surface. Well, that is my theory anyway.

You're partially right, DOT tires do "shave" to top of the racing surface.

In my experiences UMP Mods and Sprint Cars with those funny looking things on the roof are the hardest on a surface. Mods because they are on a little bitty tire (relatively speaking) and have 400-800hp which equals wheel spin galore thus sealing a surface right over.

Winged Sprints flat suck the life right out of the track between all that low pressure the wing creates that sucks the dirt particles and moisture right off the racing surface.

There was nothin wrong with the track it was black slick but veary racey. When they keep that place wet there isn't much passing going on and it gets rough so mike keep up what your doing.

I dont know what race track a few of you were at but friday night the track at bloomington could not have been better...there was passing all night all the way up to the b-main when levi took the lead low and bub cummings passed him back on the high side..... if you get the track to wet two things happen. you cant pass in the heat races and to big of a cusion is made up high making it a one groove track... not to menton it will be rough as heck....the feature had plenty of passing all night long with no yellows... dont recall anyone getting upside down all night long either..... alot of the time bloomington looks black but is still tacky. so good job mike with track prep.....my 2 cents worth.. don short

Don, you are exactly right! The track looks black, but when you walk on the track after the races you can tell it has a lot of moisture in it still.

Good job Mike Miles!

Well put Don! I thought that the racing friday was fantastic. I realize that you cannot make everyone happy and I believe this is a prime example. I guess if the track would have been one grooved and possibly rougher than h*** some people would have been happier. I think that Mike does a great job with the track and I would never want to be in his shoes to have to deal with the constant negativity by some fans. I cannot understand how someone could complain about a great night of racing with around 55 sprintcars, two very competitive support classes, NO RAIN and all for Fifteen dollars. I just want to say thank you to Mike Miles and all of the staff at Bloomington Speedway for all of their efforts to put on a well organized and enjoyable evening.
