LAWRENCEBURG SPRINTS CANCELLED

Fairground Flooding has shut down access to Lawrenceburg, Ind. Speedway.

The April 30th AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car race has been Cancelled.

The City of Lawrenceburg has deemed the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds and entry ways
to the Lawrenceburg Speedway inaccessible due to the current flooding waters and
condition of the roadways and parking areas.

Lawrenceburg Speedway and the City of Lawrenceburg apologize for the
inconvenience to everyone, but rising river waters and acts of mother nature are
beyond our control.

Friday night's AMSOIL USAC National Sprint race at Gas City I-69 Speedway and
Sunday night's AMSOIL USAC National Sprint race at Kokomo Speedway remain on
this weekend's calendar.

Since I've never lived anywhere near the Ohio river, I find it hard to believe that the water gets that high, even though I know it must. Has the river flooded that farmland on the other side of the levee that's across US50? Has it come over the levee, or is it just that the water table rises and the water comes up through the ground? Have they had to close those big doors in the levee at downtown Lawrencburg?

I'll be shocked if Kokomo or Gas City are able to run this weekend. It is pouring again in Kokomo at this minute.

Greg Staab once said that the bottom of the Ohio River is 4 foot higher than the middle of the race track.

They have installed pumps to pump out the seep water in the fairgrounds and much of the farmland in the Greendale industrial park, but the ground stays very wet because the water is still constantly seeping thru the ground. I haven't went into the track and looked at it, but I went over there about a month ago when the river was 56 feet or so and the motorcyle track and all the parking area around it and much of the adjacent newly constructed ballfields had water on them. The parking area out front has an inch or two of water and is very wet and I am guessing that is the major concern. When the river went down a few weeks ago the city even put new gravel down cause it was a mess.

The water is not even close to coming over the levee and flood doors wouldn't close to over 65 feet for sure. In '97 they were getting ready to close the flood door at the foot of Walnut Street and the river was almost 65 feet. Yes, most of the farmland is flooded on 50 except in Greendale where it is being pumped out.
