The Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series will now sanction the 2nd annual "Gene Comstock Memorial" at Schrader's K-C Raceway on Saturday, July 16th. The inaugural event in 2010 was a winged race won by Cole Duncan at a track in Gene's former home county. However, the event will now be a wingless show to be a more fitting tribute to the man the race is in honor of. In addition, moving the race to K-C Raceway is significant for the fact that K-C is the only active track in Ohio that Gene actually competed on.
Gene Comstock was from Chesapeake, Ohio and began his career as a motorcycle racer in the late 1920's. Gene's first venture into cars was in a "big car" (now a sprint car) at Winchester, Indiana in the early thirties. His career included hundreds of wins, primarily in midgets and stock cars. Gene was the only racer from Lawrence County Ohio to make it to NASCAR's elite division, the Grand National Circuit. Between 1950 and 1955, Comstock made 29 starts with 6 top 10 finishes and a career best 4th place in 1952 at Weaverville, NC. The 2nd annual event will pay $1200 to win for the BOSS non wing sprints with $225 to start. There will also be bonus money up for grabs from various sponsors. More details will be released as the event nears. For more information on the BOSS series, visit the website at www.buckeyesprints.com or call 740-703-3768.

glad to see another race close to central ohio. It is good that this also an off night for Waynesfield. Now I have to decide if I am going to stay close and go to KC or go see dad and visit haubstadt.
