Sherman Leads ASCS Canyon March into CSP!
Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (April 4, 2011) – Gunning for back-to-back wins for the first time since the latter portion of 2008, Jeremy Sherman is out to the early Sunoco Fuel ASCS Canyon Region points lead as the wingless Sprint Cars take to Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, AZ, this Saturday night.
Saturday’s card marks the second of six scheduled stops atop the 3/8-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval including the recently added April 30 event.
Sherman topped the series most recent event, a March 26 card at Canyon Speedway Park, to take over the series points lead after a runner-up finish in the series season opener two weeks earlier at Tucson’s USA Raceway.
A prolific winner over the initial two seasons of ASCS Canyon Region action, Sherman’s March 26 triumph marked just his third win since reeling off three in row in October of 2008. His March 26 score over Ronnie Clark and Bob Ream, Jr., marked his 29th overall ASCS Canyon Region win, but it was his first series win at Canyon Speedway Park.
Sherman enters Saturday’s action with a 26-point advantage over opening night winner R.J. Johnson, with two-time and defending series champion Charles Davis, Jr., another six points back in third.
Ronnie Clark is currently fourth, with Andrew Reinbold rounding out the top five. The balance of the current top ten in points includes Bob Ream, Jr., Matt Rossi, Thomas Ogle, Dalten Gabbard and Nathan High.
Canyon Speedway Park, Arizona’s Speedway for 30 years, will host the high powered Sunoco Fuels American Sprint Car Series this Saturday night for the Copper State 25. The X-Mods, Southwest Modlites and ASCS2 Micro Sprints will join the field. The thrills begin when general admission tickets go on sale at 5pm for only $15 for adults, Senior and Military $13 and children 12 under are always free. Racing will begin promptly at 7:30pm.
There will be an opportunity for race fans to get a preview of the Copper State 25 racers at an open practice slated for April 6th. The festivities will kick off at 6:00pm with grandstand admission free for all those who want a sneak preview.
