Hows abouts one more of these waybacks before we get our racing up and running here in the midwest? Too late...you didn't protest quickly enough...I'm gonna go with it. You youngsters out there can give it one of these.....
![]() This is one I had forgotten about until I went rummaging through old notes and programs. Yeh, not much to do here in the 'Burg in winter unless you're inclined to go bust your butt on Rudisell's snow at Perfect North Slopes. ![]() Kentucky International Raceway was another now defunct Cincinnati area track. It was a 1/2 or maybe 5/8 flat dirt deal which had originally been a horse racing track. It was in the Florence, KY area, but I couldn't take you back there if my life.....wait, why would you want to go there anyway? ![]() ![]() Qualifications - 29 Cars 19 Bob Harkey..................30.00 -6 Merle Bettenhausen.......31.76 69 Jim Bob Leubbert...........29.69 55 Billy Mehner..................29.69 35 Bob Tattersall...............29.56 16 Sonny Ates..................29.48 45 Gary Byers...................30.63 73 Bob Hauck....................30.57 63 Rick Davidson................30.40 -9 Les Scott.....................29.64 -3 Don Meacham...............29.52 62 Mel Kenyon...................29.28 63 Bill Burdick....................30.07 -1 Mike McGreevy..............29.04 Fast Time -2 Johnny Batts.................30.36 18 Sammy Sessions............29.43 55 Fred Hight....................30.13 27 Tommy Copp.................29.94 84 Rob Greentree...............30.73 68 Warren Scheibe.............30.35 20 John Tenney.................30.31 83 Bill Renshaw..................31.34 94 Chuck Arnold.................30.05 99 Larry Buppas..................DNQ 28 Bob Lithgow..................31.32 79 Maynard Hoffman...........33.60 29 Don Vogler....................30.67 11 Jim Florian.....................32.00 96 Gary Bettenhausen.........29.30 Fast Car Dash - 3 Laps - 1:28.12 18 Sammy Sessions...............2 96 Gary Bettenhausen...........1 61 Mel Kenyon......................3 -1 Mike McGreevy.................4 Not a bad little foursome in this dash IMO. (Mehner....Mehner...??? Now where have I heard that name? In a comedy club, maybe ![]() +Rob Greentree used to come up from Australia from time to time. I recall a night at the Salem Motel before the James/O'Connor Memorial . Bunch of us were listening to Dee Tinglestad tell us how badly Bud got screwed at Reading (Bud didn't comment) when a guy riding a horse was heading west on 56 (I think). Rob Greentree cracked up the group with "Hey mates, there goes Tom Mix". Maybe you had to be there with a near full load of adult beverages. ![]() ![]() +Gary Byers, as many here know, is the father of big time Dave Darland fan "Pancho". I've always been impressed by how well Gary takes care of his boy. Gary often displays a classic midget at Salem. +I'm a sprint car guy, but friends know I love the midgets almost equally. Just wish I had the opportunity to see more of them. +Enough....supper is ready....I didn't get this fat by skipping supper, so..... Later y'all. ![]() |

As I remember it, they didn't make too many like Rob Greentree before the mold was broken.

Marv, do you have lists of sprints or stock car races? That was an awesome 5/8 mile flat track watching the cars flying down the straights and going thru the turns side ways wide open. Dick Gaines woulds just flat out fly when he was on the track in Dizz Wilson's car as well as others. It was even neat watching the tin tops such as ARCA and USAC when they ran the cars that you could recognize as being real stock cars. It was shame that track didn't last longer than it did. Don't remember if Joe Pflum was also involved in the track with Lou Klug and Ross Smith or not, but remember him running Klug's Mercury over there.
