Wish they would of made it an open competition! So I wonder who is gonna represent us!
================================================ Don, Thank you for the email. You heard correctly, we are very excited about our World record speed trials. I believe our schedule is set, but I'm passing your information along to Wayne Estes, our VP of Events, that is heading up this event for BMS. I hope you'll be able to be in attendance next week for this exciting event. Best wishes, Jerry Jerry Caldwell EVP/General Manager Bristol Motor Speedway & Dragway (423)989-6947 ---------- Post added at 03:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:17 PM ---------- Variety of Racers to Chase Speed Records at Bristol BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Ford NASCAR drivers in a street-legal Mustang, a Tony Stewart-owned sprint car, two supermodifieds and a world superbike champion will attempt to establish half-mile closed-course records in the "World's Fastest Half-Mile Speed Trials" immediately following the Scotts EZ Seed 300 Nationwide Series race on March 19. "The World's Fastest Half-Mile issued a challenge to the fastest of the fast," Bristol executive vice president and general manager Jerry Caldwell. "For the first time in years, fans will witness an all-out attack for speed. This challenge ignites new creativity in the racing world to stretch speed boundaries in the most intense, close-quarters setting in motorsports." Tickets Bristol Track Page As part of Bristol Motor Speedway's 50th anniversary celebration, the Speedway extended invitations to several motorsports champions from wide-ranging motorsports disciplines to set class half-mile closed-course records, as well as break the 11-year-old track record. Former Cup driver Brad Noffsinger, Mike Lichty and Bryan Clauson will chase Sammy Swindell's all-time Bristol track record of 138.442 mph (13.860 seconds), set during qualifying for a World Of Outlaws winged sprint car event at Bristol in June 2000. Noffsinger and Lichty will be first to try out supermodifieds, the most exotic cars to hit Bristol's high banks, while Clauson will run one of Stewart's pavement sprint cars. Former AMA and World Superbike champion Scott Russell will attempt to set a half-mile closed-course motorcycle speed record riding a Yamaha superbike. The five-time Daytona 200 winner brings substantial experience on high banked ovals, though never one as tight as Bristol's half-mile. Ford Racing enters its supercharged 2011 Mustang GT to Bristol to establish a half-mile closed-course record for street legal cars. Ford NASCAR drivers David Ragan and Marcos Ambrose are expected to drive the ultimate pony car into the record books. The Mustang's 5.0 liter engine is topped off by Ford Racing's twin-screw supercharger and cranks out 624 horsepower. To balance all that power with more driver control, the factory suspension comes equipped with a FR3 handling pack and Ford Racing/Brembo big brake kit. Competitors will have one hour, from approximately 5 until 6 p.m., to make record runs following the Scotts EZ Seed 300. The World's Fastest Half-Mile Speed Trials is a bonus event for the Nationwide Series race ticket holders. The Speed Trials will begin after the conclusion of the Scotts EZ Seed 300. The driver and car lineups are subject to change SPEED will air a 30-minute highlight show from the World's Fastest Half-Mile Speed Trials at 4:30 p.m. ET on April 2, following its live broadcast of the Camping World Truck Series race. |

One thing I feel certain of the current track records will be broken, many in the supermodified ranks believe Mike Lichty and/or Brad Noffsinger will break Sammy Swindell's record of 13.86 by almost a second. Of course we all know Bryan Clauson is going to give it all he has to break that record as well.
Some in the supermodified ranks feel the Nascar Cup record of 14.908 will be broken by almost two seconds and of course the 14.47 set by a Whelen Mod Tour car will also fall to those fast flying open wheel guys. Wish I could attend this event, instead I will be anxiously awaiting the news out of Bristol and cheering for all three open wheel drivers to light up the place with speed. An yes, I will admit I will be cheering for Mike Lichty the loudest, have to my brother-in-law was part owner on Mike's uncle Dennis's supermodified back in the day as we like to say. Now my brother-in-law Steve and Dennis will watch this event from that racing venue in the sky, somehow I think they will be riding alongside Mike next Saturday. Wish Mike, Brad and Bryan all the best at Bristol, show those fender fans what a real race car looks like and what they are missing guys!!!!!! Patti |

I am looking forward to seeing this special event unfold. I enjoy the track and I still believe that NASCRAP should keep a 50/50 balance of short tracks to the longer distance facilities. I know, it won't ever happen. ![]() The supers remain my favorites and I will be watching them closely. Maybe in my lifetime they could stage a supermodified show at Bristol. Good luck to all and I am sure it will be entertaining. ![]()
