They have some exciting things planned for the fans on a regular race night! You can be sure that every time there's a race at Mt. Lawn Speedway it will be a good one. Come out and support open wheel pavement midget racing! Let's keep these guys going!
![]() Mel Kenyon Classic and debut of EFI Midget Engines Highlight 2011 USSA Racing Schedule For Immediate release January 19, 2011 (Lebanon, IN) Officials of the United States Speed Association have announced that The Mel Kenyon Classic will highlight their racing schedule for the 2011 racing season. The Mel Kenyon Classic will be held on Friday July 22 at Mt. Lawn Speedway. In addition to 4 dates at Mt. Lawn Speedway, the high banks at Anderson Speedway will host USSA for dates and the wide open half-mile at Illiana Motor Speedway will also welcome USSA for its traditional early August date. The 2011 USSA racing season will be the 1st to be run under the USSA Midget Racing Engine Initiative, a plan designed to dramatically reduce the cost of midget racing. USSA new engine rules package will for the first time in midget racing allow a wide range of DOHC stock block engines using electronic engine management. These 340 to 350 horsepower engines also carry a price cap of $22,000 including the electronics. The maximum displacement for the DOHC 4 valve engines is 2.5 liters. Using a weight scale based on the type of engine, USSA officials expect these engines to be competitive with the existing midget engines. The USSA Mel Kenyon Classic, to be held on Friday July 22nd, is being billed as a Celebration of Midget Racing. No driver is more closely associated with and successful than Mel Kenyon. Mel’s 10 national championships and 385 feature wins stands atop midget racings all time winner’s list and symbolizes everything that fans and competitors love about the sport. Each feature event at the “Mel Kenyon Classic” will be 61 laps long to honor Mel’s long standing car number. In addition to the extended feature length, the event will include unprecedented access, including an open pre-race pit area and an invitation to the USSA Chapel Service and driver’s meeting. “When building our 2011 schedule we looked at many different factors including the economy, the projected price of gas and diesel fuel as well as the schools in central Indiana moving towards a year round school calendar, when we were finalizing the season’s dates” said Don Kenyon USSA’s President. “We want our competitors and fans to be able to race and come to enjoy our events, not spend their hard earned dollars traveling,” Kenyon elaborated. The 2011 USSA Racing Season opens at Anderson Speedway on Sunday April 3 with a Kenyon Car Midget race at Anderson Speedway. On Sunday May 20, the USSA Midgets and Thunder Roadsters will open their seasons at Mt. Lawn Speedway. 2011 Racing Schedule Anderson Speedway Sunday, April 3 Kenyon Cars Mt. Pavement midget racing in central Indiana, can't wait for the shows at Mt Lawn. I love watching the CRA shows there, they have really fixed the place up, and the track is very challenging and entertaining. I always find myself enjoying the atmosphere between races. Looks like they planned ahead for the high gas prices, nice call. I will attend as many as these shows as possible. Good luck this year Isaac, enjoying watching you and talking with you. See you at the track.
