I got into racing midgets in 1986. After a year with my own go-cart, my family and I found a complete midget to buy for $8,500. It was built by Don and Mel Kenyon in 1977. It included a few spares and a decent open trailer. It had a 140VW and we raced 35 shows in 1986 before we had to have the engine freshened up. We ran with the same car on dirt and pavement, but mostly on pavement. During the '86 and 1987 seasons I got to run fairly competitively at the Speedrome, IRP, Winchester, Salem, Flat Rock, Terre Haute to name a few. We even made a trip with Ed Adair's WWAR group down to northern Florida where I got to race at Pensicola, Ott Speedway and Mobile Alabama. I got to travel and be with my best friends, my parents.. it was the best summer I've ever had.

I can't imagine being 25 years old, fresh out of college and wanting to go midget racing today.

I'm a really lucky guy.

Think of all those great memories, brother.

Those can't be purchased anywhere.
