The Sun Prairie Tourism Commission met with Angell Park Speedway employees Oct. 14 to discuss the Tourism Committee budget and the future of Angell Park racing.According to Angell Park Speedway Racing Promoter Chris Wilke, there ...are six national races, including five midget car races and one sprint car race, scheduled for next year. For 2011, we are going to try to bring the racetrack back to the lively venue that it used to be, but we are going to take a different approach to it,” Wilke said. “We are going to go with quality over quantity and scale the back the schedule and just bring in premier events that are going to attract more attendance from various demographics and states.”Wilke is also looking at breaking away from the Sunday night tradition and holding some of the races on Saturdays. He said one challenge with Saturday night races is the fact that other racetracks, such as Columbus, Beaver Dam, Oshkosh, Plymouth and Wilmont, hold Saturday races.“We will be in competition with five other racetracks on Saturday night, competing for their audience. We are in a position to have that niche market on Sundays…if we put enough advertising we shouldn’t have a problem.” Wilke said they also want to construct a quarter midget track for children ages 5-16. He said the quarter midget track is a smaller, go-kart style track and is growing in popularity across the nation.
So far the United States Auto Club has confirmed attendance for three races at Angell Park Speedway: the season opener May 15, Cornfest on Sunday and the Pepsi Classic.”
Wilke requested $2,000 from the committee for each national event held at Angell Park Speedway, for a total of $12,000. The money will be used to advertise the national

Looks like I may have to make Wisconsin number 23 on my states visited and Angell Park my 1st late spring road trip of 2011!
