Perris Auto Speedway
18700 Lake Perris Drive Perris, CA 92571 (951) 940-0134 perrisautospeedway.com For Further Information contact Scott Daloisio (909) 226-7768 or racesatthepas@aol.com For Immediate Release LEGENDS OF ASCOT 1ST ANNUAL HIGH DOLLAR MATCH RACE OCTOBER 23RD AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY! (OCTOBER 7, 2010, PERRIS, CA) Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian and racer Bobby Michnowicz of Timeless Enterprises are pleased to announce that the 1st Annual Legends of Ascot Match Race will take place during the intermission of the October 23rd Amsoil USAC/CRA show at The PAS. The race will honor the memory of longtime Southern California race lovers Dave Ward and Bob Michnowicz. As of right now, the purse for the WINNER TAKE ALL match race stands at $2,500.00! Four drivers have been selected to participate in this exciting affair. Rip Williams of Yorba Linda, California, “Showtime Danny” Sheridan of Santa Maria, David Cardey of Riverside and Tony Jones of Orange. Thus far five sponsors - Timeless Enterprises, Jack Jory Corporation, surfnsprint.com, Racer’s Pub in Riverside and Hondo 500 - have each stepped forward to donate $500.00. Every single cent will go to the winner. For anyone who would like to add to the purse of this epic race, please call: Michnowicz at: (310) 347-6661. To determine the winner, there will be four separate four-lap races. Just before the first race the drivers will draw numbers. The driver who draws the number one will start on the pole for the first battle and the driver who draws number two will start outside the front row. The back row will be made up of the divers who draw numbers three and four. For the second four-lapper, the driver who originally pulled the number one will move to the outside of the front row and the other drivers will also rotate one spot. By the end of the fourth race, each driver will have started one time in each of the starting slots. The winner of each race will get six points, second place will get five points, third will get four points and last will get three. The first three races will be run one after the other (meaning the drivers will line up for the second and third races without stopping). After the third race, the drivers will make a brief stop so crews can make some adjustments to their cars for the finale. They will return for the last round and the driver who ends up with the most points will collect at least $2,500.00 (hopefully more). “This is a great addition to an already great day with the Legends of Ascot in the afternoon then USAC/CRA, Ford Focus Midgets, Western Dirt Young Guns and WRA Vintage Cars at Night,” promoter Don Kazarian said. “$2,500.00 winner take all for just 16-laps is going to be intense. And, the purse for the event will hopefully grow ever larger before the race. I can’t wait for this one.” The idea for the event came from Michnowicz. “I was talking to my Mom about it and I wanted to do something more exciting than a normal trophy dash at the Legends of Ascot,” the 1994 CRA champion said. “So, I called Tony Jones and said I would be willing to back him with $500.00 in a winner take all match race. Tony agreed and then John Jory said, ‘Rip Williams can win it all’ and he wagered his $500.00. David Cardey’s sponsor, Freddie Chandler from the Racer’s Pub in Riverside, got down wind of it and wanted a piece of the action and he backed his boy in the #59 car with $500.00. Big Mike from surfnsprint.com jumped in and put his $500.00 behind “Showtime Danny” Sheridan. Everybody thinks their driver can win it all. Dave Ondo and his company, Hondo 500, could not choose between the four and threw $500.00 into the pot.” “They did this at Ascot one time and the fans loved,” Michnowicz said. “J.W. Hunt made the original challenge. The Agajanian’s took up that challenge and then a bunch of people got behind it and it exploded into a big bucks, big deal race. We expect to have the same excitement around this race and we hope people get behind it and the purse gets larger than the $2,500.00 we have now. Anybody who wants to get involved can give me a call at (310) 347-6661.” In addition to the big bucks, the winner will walk off with a special commemorative trophy courtesy of Belita Michnowicz and Lois Ward. What does this have to do with legends of Ascot?
I think Rip's the only one who ever raced at Ascot. Did Tony Jones? |

The Legends of Ascot event is being held earlier that day on the fairgrounnds and one of the organizers of that event is putting the dash together.
You are correct, Rip is the only one of the four who raced at 190th and Vermont. |

Great job digging deep into the idea box! Quick (hopefully), easy to follow procedure, top shelf talent and 30 years between editions should make for a great event within another great event.

What would really make this a cool deal is if they could raise enough money to pay the winner 10k like it did in the original match races held at Ascot 20+yrs ago.It sure is sad that the costs of racing have been on an upward trend over the years, but the purses have been going down hill over the same period.Paying the winner 10k for 16 laps, thats what I'd call racing for big bucks!
