There are many reasons why we return so often to Indiana to race; like the great Tracks and better People. This past weekend was another example of why we feel so strongly about the great people from the Hoosier State.
After our race on Saturday evening at Lawrenceburg, we were attempting to Load our Hauler for the all night trip to DuQuoin for the Silver Crown race. The Hydraulic Pump on our Door failed and we were unable to load our Sprint car, nor were we able to get the Silver Crown off the top Deck.
Dave Rudisell to the Rescue. Dave and his Family stayed with us for hours while we tried to figure out how to get the Champ Car down from the top. Finally Dave retrieved the Skid Steer and picked our Silver Crown off the top deck. Dave, Kim and their Daughter would not leave until they knew we were going to be ok. I am not sure of how many others would do the same. They are great people and really know how to take care of their own. Thank you Rudisell's; you have our unwavering loyalty.
This left us in another predicament; The Trailer Door would not work and we had no way to transport our car to DuQuoin. Barry and Kathy Ryan of Milan Indiana's B&L Motorsports loaned us their complete Hauler to enable us to make the trip to DuQuoin. Another great gesture by another great Family. Thank you Barry and Kathy. Remember; all of this transpired in the Wee Hours of Sunday morning and both of these Families got us through.
As many of you know, our night at DuQuoin was rough. The RF Brake Caliper locked up on the car heading into turn 1 on the second lap. Coleman made hard contact with the outside wall but thankfully he is ok. The Brake Rotor was literally Blue from the excessive heat and you could not touch it when it was first brought to the pit. And, our young driver was attempting to pass on the outside which certainly did not help given the situation. But most of you know Coleman. He likes the High Side. Coleman is fine and we are so thankful for that and for the fact that no one else was involved. It could have been a lot worse. We are just disappointed on a not so good showing. We all chuckled a little that perhaps the good Lord was trying to give us a "hint" when we had so many troubles. However, like the Rudisell's and Ryan's, we persevered through a tough time.
Thanks again to Dave and Kim Rudisell as well as Barry and Kathy Ryan of B&L. Great people making very kind gestures who ask for nothing in return.
