Help needed with a hotel in Indy

I have some frequent lodging nights that I have earned from work. I am planning on going to watch the Indy 500 next May. I can stay either downtown or in the Keystone Crossings area. While it appears that downtown would be closer to the track, I am not sure that I want to deal with the headaches of downtown.

My plan is to arrive on Thursday and go watch the Silver Crown races. I am hoping to go to Gas City on Friday night. Either ORP, the little 500, or something else on Saturday.

What would everyone recommend? I have already checked the motel and both locations still have open rooms that I can use my credits on.

thanks
Jon

If you plan to go drinking after the races you attend stay downtown, if not, stay at Keystone at the Crossing. Probably better driving to GC and Anderson from there, better to ORP from downtown.

thanks for the help. I was looking at going last year and knew that somebody were racing on Thursday. Last year it was USAC sprints at THAT. Does USAC always sanction a sprint car race on Thursday night?

They have for the last several years, I'd leave a hole in my schedule for it.

Better check if you can actually get reservations that weekend on your points. The one I use has blackout dates for most popular weekends.

I would look into Anderson having a winged show on Wednesday (if you are in Indiana that early and don't discriminate), USAC at THAT on Thursday, Silver Crown at the Mile on Friday and ORP on Saturday.

Doesn't Kokomo run that Sunday or is it another track?

Also there is usually practice and qualifying on Thursday and Friday for the Little 500 (which is better then sitting in a hotel room). Mt. Lawn I also think had a race on Thursday the last couple years.

Either way being in Indiana the 4-5 days leading up to the 500 is a great time.

Kokomo has run after the 500 at least since the O'Connors took over. Check though because there are rumors of them cutting back on their dates next year.
