I don't know about what drivers will be making the trek over but RacinBabe and I will make our annual excursion to the Magic Mile.

We always go. I hope they have the peanut covered nutty bars(ice cream bars) in the grandstands. Those are a tradition. I usually ruin a few teeth on one of those as they are some how frozen hard as a rock.
We also ride the tram around the fair a few times to catch up on whats happening with southern Illinois culture. I haven't seen anyone go over the ski jump in a few years. I can also tell if interest is up for the SIU Salukis basketball team by the number of people wearing basketball t-shirts. I always like looking at the vintage sprint/dirt cars if they are on hand. The Elder car is usually there. The race since being held at night is always great. Not that it wasnt good in the afternoon, but it is especially good at night. Always someone coming from way in the back to make it exciting. If you haven't gone, GO. |

What is the best way leaving from Indy? This will be my first trip to Duquoin and from the sound of things it won't be my last.

We're are pulling out in 5 minutes with the camper for the 5.5 hour drive to Du Quoin. Should get there in time to see the mule show over at the horse pavillion. Hopefully our favorite spot over in the non-hook-up camping area is vacant, but even if it isn't there's a lotta' room for an alternative spot. Gonna' go over to Rend Lake tomorrow and do some fishin' and boatin' and have a couple of beers, not necessarily in that order.
We look forward to this trip more every year. Our first year there was 1994 and I have no idea why we never went before that but we surely should have. Looks like we could get some rain on Thursday into Friday but the weekend looks great. Got tickets for a couple of the grandstand shows as well so it should be a great time. All of you who make the trip to Du Quoin be safe and have a great time!!!
