We racing fans sometimes complain about lack of local coverage of racing events. I'd like to give thanks to the Sports Editor of the Brazil (IN) Times, Carey Fox for being the exception to that. I don't personally know Carey, but it's evident that he works hard at his profession. He is able to carve a full page plus a quarter of another out of a 12 page local newspaper each Monday to report local and regional racing news and results. His report this week include results and/or pictures of events at LPS, Lawrenceburg, Gas City, and the Shuman TnT event at Lakeside. His coverage of LPS includes Sprint Cars, Modifieds, Super Stocks and Bombers. No doubt his coverage helps the attendance at LPS. Thanks Carey for a job well done!

Being that Brazil is 382 miles from where I live, I don't get to see Carey's hard work. But I do so his work on here. As a photographer attempting to deal with our local newspapers is usually difficult.

I'm glad to see him shoot at a track, and cover other sports. It's obvious he is not only a good sports editor, but also a true fan of racing. I think his boss(es) should be commended for letting him run all of that racing coverage.

I'll leave on the final note, that (some of) you Hoosiers don't know how good you have it!

We have 2 papers that cover our area, one right here in town the other in the big town. The one right here in town charges us $700 to advertise our High School Auto Club Swap Meet. Have they sent a reporter to do a story - No. The paper in the big town one e-mail & they're there, we get almost a full page story too. Same paper will advertise our swap meet in their "Wheels Section" for free. Guess which paper I'll subscribe too.

I don't think I have ever seen the Cincy Enquirer cover an event even though L-Burg and Moler are right in our back yard. We get to hear all about Ky basketball and Ohio State football......nothing on dirt track racing.

It would be nice if they did as there are a lot of people out there that might get hooked on the sport if they knew something about it.

Thanks so much for the kind words everyone. I wouldn't call covering or photographing so much work, but a personal joy. But I wish more newspapers would print their local racing scenes. I spent high school in college in the backyard of Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania and I always enjoyed the weekly racing section that my local paper published. I believe that Brad Vores did much of the writing. So I thought I'd try and see what I could do in this hotbed of racing in Indiana once I was hired as the Sports Editor at The Brazil Times. The section has been very well received amongst the racing community and even non-racing fans have commented to me about the photos. So that makes the job even that much more enjoyable!!
Thanks again everyone and if those of you who haven't seen our news site for the stories, it is: www.thebraziltimes.com

Carey,

I live and work in Indy, but shoot for a paper in Olney, Illinois, The Olney Daily Mail. The thing is the editor of the paper loves racing and runs stuff a couple times a week. He also likes the fact that circulation goes up when he runs racing stuff.

Strange how the LARGE papers readership is going down, and they can't figure out why, while the small town papers cater to their readers. Also increasing their circulation by doing so. Maybe they should pay more attention on what goes on around them.

Weather you loved him or hated him, Robin Miller got you to read the Star. Now at the Star the question is ,What's racing? , and nobody pays attention to the paper either.

It is the same here in Indy. The Star used to print results from the area tracks in the stat. section of the sports page. They do not do that any more. How ever they do print results from The 'Drome. I do not get that.
