MACON SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCES DANA GODFREY MEMORIAL THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

Macon, IL – Macon Speedway and POWRi are proud to announce that the Speedway National Midget and 600cc Outlaw Micro Sprint Series will take center stage at Macon Speedway for the “Dana Godfrey Memorial” on Friday, August 20. The night will consist of POWRi Midgets and Micros and our UMP Modified division plus our UMP Street Stocks and Pro and Amateur Hornets. The event celebrates the life of Dan Godfrey, late wife of longtime chassis builder and owner of Spike Chassis, John Godfrey. Dana was a familiar face at the race track and at the speed shop when the couple owned Stealth Chassis.

Brad Loyet of Sunset Hills, MO enters the event with a commanding lead in the Championship point standings and is coming off a recent win at Belle-Clair Speedway for the running of the 30 lap “Arnie Knepper Memorial” National Midget event. 2009 POWRi Champ Brad Kuhn follows in second with Austin Brown, Zach Daum and Daniel Adler rounding out the top five.

The 600cc Outlaw Micro Sprint division has a much tighter battle with Andrew Felker of Carl Junction, MO leading the charge with a 55 point advantage over Jeremy Camp of Blue Mound, IL. Defending POWRi Champ Derek King lurks in third and is still within striking distance with quite a few races to go in the season. Joe B Miller and Brandon Graybeal round out the top five. Felker recently won the 20 lap “Arnie Knepper Memorial” event. This weekend is a huge open wheel weekend for Central Illinois as the races at the Illinois State Fairgrounds feature the USAC Silver Crown cars on Saturday, August 21 competing in the Tony Bettenhausen 100. Join us back again at the IL State Fair on Sunday with the ARCA REMAX Car Series battling for the win in the Allen Crowe Memorial along with the Sportsman Nationals, both races begin at 1:00 pm. Don’t miss your chance to cheer on the local Macon Speedway drivers on Saturday in the UMP Modified division, new this year; and the Sportsman as they will compete in the Sportsman Nationals on Sunday!

We have lots still planned for 2010 so be sure to come join Macon Speedway for an action packed end to the summer.

Gates will open at 5:00 and racing will start at 7:00. Macon Speedway will not be racing this Saturday night.

The wife and I was really gung ho to go to Mighty Macon. I understood they were only going to run the mods and micro-sprints as a support division. The mods, street stocks and hornets are just too much, the track will be worn out by the time the midget feature pushes off.

Knowing what I know now we're thinkin' we'll stay on the lake and fish 'till dark.

Silver Crown Championship Dirt Cars properly driven on a one mile dirt track are classic poetry in motion. Using that analogy, Jack Hewitt is one of the greatest poets of all time.

They keep the show moving and have usually ran the midgets and micros first. My best guess is that you will be out of there by 10:15.

I would agree 48mod, Sarg does move things along pretty good. My biggest concern is that the track will lock down before the midget feature with that many cars to be runnning heats, etc. I've seen it happen at Mighty Macon many times. Once the place locks down and you get off the very bottom you get freight-trained regardless of how fast you are.

Really disappointing to hear of all the support classes. I still think we'll fish 'till dark Friday night.

It's supposed to be about 94 here Friday. It will be hard to keep moisture in the track with that many classes. The heats will be good for sure.

For those about to rock, we salute you.
