UMRA Returns to Brownstown Saturday Night
By Alex Wollf The 50th anniversary season of the Dutch Mill UMRA TQ Midgets rolls along this Saturday night with the fourth and final appearance of the season at the Brownstown Speedway. The previous three have featured exciting racing with Oogie Goff winning on May 15, Brandon Gray on July 10, and Terry Goff being the most recent UMRA winner at the Jackson County track on July 29. Terry’s four-race winning streak was snapped this past Saturday night at Twin Cities Raceway Park when mechanical problems eliminated him from competition. However, the race did mark the sixth in a row that a member of the Goff family has won with Terry’s son Jason providing the bookends on his father’s streak with wins at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds in Columbus on July 16 and this past Saturday at Twin Cities. With the season winding down, Jason sits second in points and needs to start to gain points in a hurry if he wants to keep Terry from winning his fifteenth UMRA title. As always the “Tony Stewart Rookie Challenge” will award $50 to the highest finishing rookie and the G&G Oil “Hard Charger of the Race” will see the driver who advances the most positions in the feature get five gallons of fuel. The youngsters will want to get their parents to bring them to the track on Saturday as a brand new kid’s bike will go to a lucky fan. Gates open at three on Saturday at Brownstown, practice is at 5:30 with racing scheduled to begin at 6:30. Top Ten in UMRA Points (After Sixteen Races) 1. Terry Goff 2296 6. Doug Roland 1615 2. Jason Goff 2010 7. Michael Koontz 1588 3. Ron Combs 1859 8. Scotty Orme ® 1369 4. Robbie Roland 1792 9. Jon Steed ® 1363 5. Brandon Gray 1633 10. Ron Hamm 1296 |
