Shock Valving - What makes a 5 a 5?

Hi, I have sent this to Pro Shocks direct but yet to hear anything back.
Just wondering what makes a 5 shock a 5, or a 4-6 a 4-6 and so on? Meaning, when the shock is dynoed by someone and you get a sheet like Pro etc send with the new shocks - how do you read that to be a 5? Is is a certain pounds force at so many inches per second? Ie: 50lbs force at 2 inches per second on compression = 4 - then 80lbs force at 2 inches per second rebound = 6 - therefore a 4/6 tie down. I would like to check this with the figures I now have to determine what shocks are still correct as looking at some of the figures, if my LR 4/7 is spot on, the 3/8 that I sometimes swap to is more like a 5/6! Goes the wrong way! Thanks. |

Call Fred at Pro and have him explain it to you. Great guy. That or call a company like CSI(Garret),Advanced(Cory) or Indy Race Parts(Bernie).
All of the companies are a little diifferent in terms of what their numbers represent or how they dyno their shocks. One of the reasons that the smaller shock rebuilders/companies were started is because of the quality control problems the bigger companies like Carrea and Pro had. As shocks have evolved; they have become the biggest tuning device on the car. |
