It was discussed earlier about car counts. With all of the shows this weekend, I still think that the car counts were decent even with the economy being what it is. Here are the sprint car numbers.

Friday-Total 113

Bloomington-33
Gas City-30
Union County-11
Toledo (USAC)-20
Dixie (AVSS)-19

Saturday-180

Twin Cities-16
Lincoln Park-36
Tri State (MSCS)-24
Paragon-25
Waynesfield-26
Owosso (AVSS)-17
KC (ASCOC)-36

I thought the 24 sprints at Haubstadt put on one awesome show. I was, however, a little surprised to only see 13 mods Saturday night. Granted, the mods were not the reason I drove 3 hours over there, but it still came as something of a shock to see only a "Baker's Dozen" of them in the pits.

The reason for the low car count was a $1,500 to win Modified show at

Nebo (Madisonville) KY.

I think what alarms a lot of people is how early in the season car counts have fallen off. In recent years it seems like car counts start to fall off at many tracks after sprintweek. Another factor is what seems to be an increased number of tracks and series operating in competition with each other. With the economy like it is I think it makes it more important for tracks to work on their scheduling of events. If you pick a night when 3 or 4 other tracks are racing the same classes you might end up with half the cars you expected and end up with a financial loss. One thing I have noticed though is several tracks are still getting pretty good crowds for regular shows even with a reduced number of cars. I just wonder how long that will continue since many fans want to get the most bang for their buck.

What would you call that big, loud, colorful display they shot into the sky on the parade lap before the sprint feature? I'm pretty sure those were fireworks.

Look, I know what you meant. But after that awesome feature, you're honestly complaining about not also seeing some huge pyrotechnic show? I know that when I walked out the gate Saturday night, I felt like I got my money's worth.

Great race on a perfectly prepared track, it was over early, we got home at a reasonable time. I got my moneys worth but I have to say my grandson was dissapointed that there were no fireworks.
