I don't like it but it fits the Racin' with DO theme of changing things at races.
If it is only 5 minutes that's ok.

I think throw the yellow flag for 5 laps, laps count.
That way it slows the race, laps count. But cars that stop are still on the same lap as the lead cars, just on the tail of the field as they come out of the pits.
Give the fans a break to piss, stretch, get a beer and talk with your fellow fans your with.

Start them double file, everybody on lead lap.

Cars that don't pit are leading the race with their race set up for 100 laps.

Cars that pit change tires, fix the front end, add fuel, give the driver a rest. Starting on the tail ready to race! Fuel only? 1 tire ? Two tires? Adds to the event.
Give the fans free popcorn at the break.

Will cost most teams another set of tires, true but they could of stayed out as well.

SO I don't like the tradition being jacked with BUT !

If Sergeant doesn't make money with this race he is probably done with the Hoosier 100. Mods on miles normally make a lot of money?
Not many promoters standing in line to take it over .

So Yellow flag between lap 50. Laps count in race length, Lapped cars get laps back too.
Teams can chose to pit and race 45 laps from the rear or let their driver adjust the dri-bar and race a 100 laps.

Only way I can see the red flag at 51 is a time frame of 5-10 minutes. Sharp!
Every driver&team are properly lined up and knows where to be on the next lap around. No extra laps to line up the field.

Yellow flag 5 laps @ 50 , What options do teams have?
1 - Fix your that got crashed.
2 - If your driver is a newbie to the miles, gives him a break and you can talk with him and adjust for him.
3 - Teams can use a light load save tires and take on fuel only !
4 - Teams can add fuel, tires & adjust the car, takes longer, starts deeper in pack.
Cost of Tires extra.
5 - Teams can load up on fuel, set it up for 100 miles and race!

I never though I would say this, but D.O. that's a good idea.

Would of been a whole lot easier to just make them put on a 14" hard compound right rear tire and actually do some track prep before the whole thing gets underway so it will not be black slick hot lapping.What's next might has well add some pole dancers during the built in break since the event is already getting the shaft for changing it.

The driver must get out of car when ever you put fuel in it!!!

People aren't okay with a red flag, that will count no laps and not put everyone back on the lead lap like some magic fairy because it's contrived

BUT...

people are okay with taking 5 laps off the race AND giving everyone laps back as if the first 50 didn't even happen?

TALK ABOUT HYPOCRITES AND STUPID IDEAS!

if the promoter needs a 10 min. break to sell popcorn to pay for this race WHO CARES!!! I have not seen anywhere on this board where anyone is putting there own money into making the race happen (not money in race cars). I documented the outragouse cost of this race in the other post. Honestly all the tradition talk..... they are not racing the same cars today as when the race was created. Past promoters have done a TERRIBLE job of makeing changes to keep the race competive. If the brake allows some cars at the back to put on fresh rubber and move twords the front, I AM ALL FOR IT. If I want to watch cars run nose to tale a half second apart I will watch a nascar race on Sunday.

Why not split up the purse and run 2 features. Make both 50 laps or maybe 40 then 60. Take a 30 minute intermission to work on the cars, work the track, etc. Invert a 6-8 cars for the 2nd feature. Add deleware style restarts where the leader picks a line and the rest double file in behind him. Throw in a cash bonusi to win both segments.

You're not even from Indiana and you've never attended a Hoosier 100, you dont have any idea what our racing means to us!!!1

Talked with a couple racers over the weekend about this and :

They said you don't have to get out of car while refueling a silver crown car.

Another said they don't like messing with the format but they would rather have the 5 lap yellow than a red. Because a red breaks all momentum for a driver, team and fans and they like others don't think that there is such a thing as a 5 minute red.
