Mike originally came from stock car racing,I think he went back to the late models in 2005.

He is very fast in the taxis. Saw him at Perris and he dominated until some sort of problem. Sure wish he would come back to sprint car land. What a shoe!

Chris, Mike Kirby essentially quit being an active sprint car driver after the 2006 USAC/CRA season. He simply returned to his first love, stock car racing. Mike will race anything with 4 wheels, including Late Models, Cruisers, and Figure 8 cars. He finds racing with fenders "more fun", and was never a fan of the pressure of racing sprint cars. He just wanted to have fun.
The sad part is, is that Mike Kirby has/had as much natural ability in a sprint car as any man I have ever seen. He has the smoothest style you will ever witness. I have contended all along that had Mike had the motivation or desire that Rip Williams or Damion Gardner possess, he would have ruled the Southern California region for twenty years, be the all-time winningest racer in CRA/SCRA/USAC-CRA history, and a sure Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee. He just didn't care as much about winning as he cared about having fun. He would sooner be racing his stock car. There ya go. DM |
