From last year:

ONES, THOMAS, and CLARK PICK UP "SPRING CLASH VICTORIES AT BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY

By: Chris Nunn

Bloomington, IN- April 24th, 2009- Warm temperatures and gusty winds greeted a healthy crowd at Bloomington Speedway for the second running of the "Spring Clash", paying $3,000 to win, and $300 to start PLUS $2,460 in lap prize money for the Sprints. A pit full of 46 Safety-Kleen Sprint Cars, 20 O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds, and 19 Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks signed in for racing activites.

Levi Jones and Josh Wise led the field to the green flag in the 30-lap Safety-Kleen Sprint Car main event, with the initial start being brought back due to a spin for Jon Stanbrough in turn two. Attempt number two on the start went off cleanly, with Jones leading lap one. Wise was second, with Jeff Bland, Jr. in third. Jones opened up a half straightaway lead over Wise as the field completed lap five. Behind Jones and Wise, Dave Darland moved his way up to the third spot, getting around Bland, and then moved around Wise for second just one lap later on lap seven. Darland was utilizing two different groves on the racetrack in attempts to catch Jones. High in turns one and two, and low in turns three and four. By the halfway point, Darland had closed into within less than seven car lengths on Jones, as the lapping process began. Jones quickly threw two lapped cars between he and Darland, but Darland, the veteran, disposed of the first lapped car with ease. Darland then took care of the second lapped car and set sail for Jones once again. With less than ten to go, Jones put the lapped cars of Nic Faas and Jesse Cramer between he and Darland. Darland, however, was not giving up as he got around both cars. As he was getting around them, Jones opened up his advantage on Darland once again to about six car lengths. It looked as if Darland was going to get a run on Jones coming off of turn two with just two laps to go, but ran out of real estate, almost slipping off the turn two banking. This allowed Jones to pull away for the final time, taking the checkers and $5,460 worth of winnings from the Bloomington Speedway as he led every lap of the event. The Olney, IL driver is sponsored by Chevrolet, Bass Pro Shops, and the car is owned by Tony Stewart Racing. Darland, Wise, Bland Jr, and Danny Holtsclaw rounded out the top five. The Sprint Mart Hard Charger award went to Jon Sciscoe, who moved up nine spots from his 17th starting position to finish eighth.

The "Spring Clash", being the first special event of the season, allowed the Safety-Kleen Sprint Cars to time trial, with the fastest lap going to Tucson, Arizona native Jerry Coons, Jr with a time of 11.496. Five heat races were run with the wins going to Josh Wise, Levi Jones, Danny Holtsclaw, Jeff Bland, Jr., and Dave Darland. The C-Main went to Ethan Barrow, with the B-Main going to Robert Ballou
