I know not a car thread BUT went to the Suprcross last night and WHAT A SHOW. This is a prime example of how to put on a well run and entertaining racing event. To start with they opened with a darken arena and Bruce Springsteen's Born in The USA cranked up loud while the carried MANY flags out. Then before the National Anthem was sung, very well by a local lady, they marched out a large group of USAF inductees who took their oath right there and then. Was awesome and the ovation they recieved was loud and long. Then they did a big build up with videos and the riders either riding around with just a spotlight on them or a few who went thru the crowd slapping hands. The races went off quickly and pretty much on time, whole thing started EXACTLY at 7pm and we walked out the doors about 2 minutes to 10pm. It's a shame alot of local promoters can't even get the races started on time, let alone the long drawn out programs we get. Alot can be learned from a well done show like last night. Supercross must be doing something right, they all but sold out Lucas Stadium. I know not everything can be filtered down but it would be nice to see a few ideals used at least for the big shows.

The secret to their show and their entertainment success. Maybe a company for USAC and/or promoters to look into partnering with...

Another thing I noticed was so many families with small kids. Probably 30%. No beer spilled on you or bad language. Awesome show, right.

Was a great show all the way around. A much better racing fix in the off season than the monster jam was. Once it started moving it didn't stop. Definately great entertainment for the price especially with the $10 off from Monster.

IMO, the number one reason Supercross has a much better fan base than open wheel racing is not because the show is better, open wheel racing is some of the best racing around, but because the average person can relate to it. 75% of the people in the stands this weekend race or ride dirt bikes. You can't get that in our sport, the average joe can't own a sprint car or midget like they can a dirt bike. That's why I believe 62,000 people were in attendance this weekend, while any midget/sprint car race can't seem to get 4,000 people... |
