Normally East bay doubles up the next day when a rain out occcurs at the winter nationals. Who made the call to not make it up? Not bashing, just asking.

I know they've done it on Saturdays and Sundays. But do they have a history of holding weekday afternoon make-up shows?
Granted a good portion of the crowd is vacationing fans, but I'd think it would be impossible to draw any local crowd for an unscheduled Wednesday afternoon February show. |

Good point Gary. All the rainouts this year have been on the weekend but I beleive in years past they did during the week. So far this year this will be the only race they won't make up. Just seemed weird.

USAC is leasing the track and promoting this show themselves, from what I hear, so it would have to be them. Of course, it makes absolutely perfect sense to not run a Wednesday afternoon show, financially. The crowd was very healthy last night - better than any crowd I saw down here for the sprint car races three and four years ago.

Kevin Miller came by our trailer to let us know we were rained out. We asked about two shows tomorrow and he said the same as above. Being a Wednesday they would not expect a crowd for the day/make up show. While we could use the money from the show to help with expenses, I respect the decision.
Thanks to Kevin for coming around and telling us himself. |

I wouldn't call it BIG business if you put the USAC brand up against other major corporations in the US. But you are right it is a business, and as such must be ran that way. If the club is not properly managed to ensure it's continued success, then there won't be a club. I agree that it was not a popular decision but I believe that it was in the best interest of the club long term.
Also, with the tide being in right now there is no way that place will drain very well. I can imagine that the Eastbay crew is going to have their hands full getting the pits and parking lot passable in time for the night show. We got stuck on flat ground in the camping area because everything is so saturated. They had very heavy rains on Saturday that already had the grounds soaked. Now with this rain I will be happy if they can get it ready for Wednesday night. I applaud Kevin Miller for taking the time to walk through pouring rain and slop to tell us what was going on. Not many CEO's would do that. BTW, I do not work for USAC or speak for anyone there. This is strictly my opinion as a racer. And that's all I have to say about that. |
