While I think the Alfater cars were ugly, I believe the Watson sprinters were the best looking sprint cars ever built. They had perfect lines and balance.

This car became pretty ugly when Mike Mosley wadded it up at Dayton on Sept.3,1967. In Joe Scalzo's book "Stand on the Gas" there is a 12 shot sequence of the crash. As the saying goes,he used it up.

I also watched a guy by the name of Al Smith dump this car. It was painted gold when Al crashed it. That was a bad one too.

Wow, I was at that race in '67. My dad took us there on our way to the Montreal Worlds Fair. I was 9 and still remember Mario driving that beautiful #2 car in twin 50 lappers and as I remember he basically ran away w both races. We went to Oswego quite often, it's no wonder w history like this, here I am 40 some years later stlll stuck on this stuff!! Tnx for the picture and memories. Dan Estelle

If that is the car Mario drove when he won both 50 lappers it was at Oswego at the Silver Crown Race. It was on display by our pit and I talked to the owner for a while and he told me he found it in an old barn in New Hampshire. He said it was in really bad shape when he got it but he did a beautiful restoration !

I Think you guys will find this interesting. About 9-10 years ago while poking around a local metal recycler I found a magnesium pin drive knockoff rim so I hauled it home thinking it was something to cool to throw out or melt down. We'll here is where it gets interesting, while having new windows installed in our family room one of the installers noticed all my race'n stuff and asked if I had any Halibrands. I showed him a few pairs and the one single I have and he said "Oh My God" and pointed out the stamping on the hub of the single, which I did not notice initially. Around the end of the hub was stamped Leader Card. I don't know who discarded the wheel but it is a rather intriguing find!
