Brad Loyet takes the bull by the horns Friday night and wins the $5,000 first place money, Starting on the front row by Bryan Clawson Loyet jumped right out to the lead, over coming several yellow flags and running in lap traffic for part of the race.
Unofficial first four, Loyet, Clawson, Luker, and Brad Kuhn. Loyet green to checkered. 20 feature wins for the young midget driver with maybe one more tommorow night. Chris Hale joins me on the call. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diM1NePdA3U |

That place is not practical at all, was out there last year & no matter how many improvements they try to make the biggest improvement that needs to be made, can't be...A BIGGER TRACK!!!!!! You can barely keep the motor running most of the time because of the gear you have to run, the venue deffinitely needs to change to keep this deal going

That sure looks a little to short.
You know the tracks to small, when you have a yellow and the leader lines up in lapped traffic... ![]() |

So I just checked the KC Star online again, and there was just as much coverage of last night's race as Friday's program received: Zilch.
Now, if they were to receive some decent press releases prior to the event, I find it rather hard to imagine that the paper would simply refuse to cover a two-day event at Kemper Arena. So one has to wonder if there simply was no effort made locally to promote this deal. Perhaps someone from the KC-area can answer this. I know this much: three weeks ago at the Turkey Day classic race at Springfield (Mo) Raceway, other than one passing mention of this race by the announcer, I saw and heard nothing else about it. But there was plenty of promos for a demo derby/indoor figure-8 race later this winter at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. Seems like the demo derby folks are more on the ball about advertising. I don't mean to be critical. I'd like to support anyone willing to put on a midget race in winter, and I know they can't do anything about the track size, but I'm not sure I want to drive four hours to watch midgets go 45 mph under green. And when it doesn't seem like anyone cares enough to make a good faith effort to promote the deal, why should they expect the fans to care enough to support it? |

I thought that they did a good job of promoting the event in the KC area. They bought radio ads. They had posters at the local O'Reillys. They had a live remote from the track Friday afternoon on the local sports radio station. It was a topic on the Friday race preview segment on the sports radio show for the last two weekends. It was also a topic on the two hour racing show on the last two Saturday morning on sports radio. They also were on all of the internet sites as well.
The crowd Friday night was rough, but the crowd saturday night was a lot better. However, when you have a venue that seats 17,000, it is easy to have a big crowd look sparse. |

From what was said on the radio, they were able to add 20' of length to the track over last year, and they ran the karts the weekend before to do some track prep. I don't believe they have the room to add any more. I hope this event can survive, as it did bring substancial revenue into K.C. I also know the promotor put a lot of expense into trying to make it work. Small track, yeah. Will it make it? I don't know. After watching the video, it was better than I expected, which means improvements were made from last year. We will see!!!
