Makes perfect sense to me. The haven't needed all of that track activity for 20 years or more. Makes financial sense for all parties involved IMO.

well im sure it had to do more with the money it takes to have that second week, as the track had already let go a large portion of its upper managment team. Which will be filled with contract workers come race time. I know they where having problems with getting their operational loan from the bank for the season, dont know how that panned out. It will be interesting to see how this year goes.

You are correct, 20 years ago they needed the month of May.

Later it was a money maker because there was so much corporate entertaining it took the whole month to give all the corporations their time at The Track for entertaining.

But since Boy George screwed everything up, there is no corporate interest and not much fan interest. I feel sorry for all the caterers and their suppliers for their loss of income.

What a nice surprise that somebody is turning this into a b!tch session. We can never have enough griping around here.

There are pro's and con's to every situation. The (con) is that it's too bad for the tradition of the month. The (pro) is that it's great for us "out of towners".
By taking only a few extra vacation days I can now travel there, see all of time trials, and then the race weekend.
I hate seeing the overall decline in cars and fan interest as compared to decades past, but I truly believe it has turned the corner and will get stronger as the years progress.
My humble opinion.
David.

Sorry Seadog, I'm here to complain too.

This sucks for only one reason to me. It pushes the little guy out even more than they already have. With only one weekend of qualifying, there is just about ZERO chance that any driver who doesn't have his name on the entry list will end up in the show. You know, the "ancient" practice of car owners getting their primary drivers qualified on the 1st weekend, and then possibly putting someone in a "T" car on the 2nd weekend.
Oh well, I'm one of the rare ones who doesn't mind all the foreigners in the 500.
Maybe next year, to save even more money, we'll replace Carb Day with Qualifying Day.
What a crock of *****.
