The 2007 USAC Sprint season saw a total of 30 races contested.
• Drivers flipped in 21 of 22 dirt races There were no flips at Kamp Motor Speedway on July 19th. There were 78 flips by 49 drivers • 7 flips - Kevin Swindell Drivers flipped in every event possible. (Drivers in Heats 3 and 4 must have paid attention to the earlier heats as there were substantially fewer flips in the those races.) • Practice - 7 On two different occasions the feature winner had flipped earlier in the evening. • Marc Jessup took the win on April 22nd at Winchester after flipping in Heat 1. Of the 22 races that saw drivers turn over 7 of those had 5 or more flips. • 8 - Lawrenceburg, 4/21 Only 2 drivers got upside down twice in one evening and they both did it on the same night (June 14th at Gas City). • Ricky Stenhouse - Qualifictions & Heat 2 |

Swindell did flip at Salem, but I'm guessing that his flip didn't show up in the race stats, as the official scoring on that race was a rain-out (never restarted after Swindell's flip, if memory serves me)

I think we restarted but only got MAYBE a couple of laps in before the monsoon hit ! LOL Hopefully the next time that USAC knows that there is bad weather in the immediate vicinity they can postpone the midget victory lane interview until the conclusion of the complete program.

A much more sobering side to this statistic is how many of the current slicing, chopping, slide job specialists would have, even, survived a season back in the "before cage" days when success was achieved by skill and precision driving rather than by how brave you are and how much money daddy has to fix the car, and success meant getting a chance in the INDY 500. I can assure you that the "skills" used by many of the current drivers would have gotten them a punch in the face, or worse, from one the veteran INDY 500 drivers who regularly ran sprint cars "back in the day"
How many times you can flip a car without getting hurt is not really a statistic to gloat about........... |

How is this Off Topic? Seems entirely to me. On Topic :thumb:
I really think part of this is the Cage and fat RR tires but the racings no less exciting. IMHO theres definately a lot more flat footing going on than in the past *Non Winged* I think about 1988 with Leon Thickstun at the helm of the Hoffman car was the first time I seen a non winged car flatfoot the whole LBurg Speedway Non winged the following year Staab did it. If there used to be a hole in the track and it was in the racing grove, They'd lift, drive through it then power out. Now it seems they either hook it and flip or drive around it. Chuck, who definately sees a lot more wheels being given if a pass isn't complete

The victory lane interview is conducted by a regional radio station that is there each and every Salem event - and thus is a major benefactor to the track - I don't think this can be pinned on USAC - USAC and Salem were covering the weather closely - they did several other things like cancelling the vintage cars from hitting the track - I think this can be written off as unfortunate for all parties concerned - |

Back in the 90`s we only had one Steve Butler on the track crashing everyone that dared to try to race him side by side. Today we have a lot more of these types. Kids who don`t respect their equipment or the people they race against. I think what we need now is another A.J. Foyt or Sheldon Kinser, someone who isn`t afraid to let a punch fly after getting crashed.

Does anybody have injury statistics for the '07 year? Just by my recollection, it seemed like one of the safest in recent memory.:thumb::thumb::thumb::applaud:
