Elson Wins first career feature, Moffatt

secures Championship!

Andrew Elson has opened many eyes in his

short career. He’s had some great runs at

Lawrenceburg in his rookie season. Heading

into the final points race of the season, Elson

was ready to show he could run up front, and

run up front he did! The Carmel, Indiana

native lead all 25 laps in the Lawrenceburg

Chevrolet Sprint car feature on his way to his

first career sprint car feature win. When the

green flag dropped all eyes were on the

point’s battle between Joss Moffatt and

Shawn Westerfeld. Heading into the feature

Moffatt had a 115 point lead over

Westerfeld.

It was going to take a bad finish by Moffatt in

order for Westerfeld to have a chance

attaking the championship. Unfortunately for

Moffatt, he was as fast as he has been all

year. With Elson starting on the pole, he was

able to run a good race with not a lot of

pressure. Moffatt had to come from the

fourth row, and by the time he cleared the

slower traffic, he was out of time to mount a

challenge for the race win. A very excited

Andrew Elson was greeted by friends and

family in victory lane as well as Moffatt who

claimed his second track championship at

Lawrenceburg. Following Elson and Moffatt

across the finishline was Shawn Westerfeld,

Mitch Wissmiller, and Ted Hines. Heat race

winners were Elson, Dickie Gaines, and Ted

Hines. The top five finishers in The

Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Car standings

were Joss Moffatt, Shawn Westerfeld, Brady

Short, JJ Hughes, and Robert Ballou. JJ

Hughes also claimed the 2009 Rookie of the

year.

Finally…. Griffis is in Victory Lane! Harris

wins back to back championships!

Chuck Griffis could very well be a multiple

time feature winner at Lawrenceburg. But

because of bad luck, he always seemed to

come up short. When the green flag waved,

Griffis would start from the pole but lose the

lead on lap one to Jeff Harris who looked like

he would put his modified on cruise control

and pull away. Harris had already secured the

track championship in the Budweiser UMP

Modifieds, so a win would just be icing on the

cake. Slowly reeling in the race leader was

Chuck Griffis. Lap after lap, he closed in on

Harris, and for several laps he tried to take

the low line around Harris to take the lead,

but Harris was strong on the high side. But

finally, on lap 16 Griffis was able to slide up

in front of Harris and take the lead. He would

lead the final 4 laps on his way to victory

lane. Harris finished second followed by JD

Largent, David Daughtery and Joey Kramer.

Heat race winners were Griffis, Harris, and

Largent. Jim Fliehmann won the B main. The

top five finishers in the Budweiser UMP

modifieds final point standings was Jeff

Harris, JD Largent, Rick Bingham, Scotty

Mattlin, and Derek Groomer.

Will McRoberts take feature and track

championship all at once!

The Ohio Valley Screenprinters Purestocks

point’s battle was the most competitive of any

class heading into the final points night.

Entering the night, Pat Weber held a 15 point

lead over Will McRoberts. Rick Vance was in

third place, just 40 points out of the lead.

With the feature lineup set, it was appropriate

that McRoberts would start on the pole

alongside Weber who would start on the

outside of the front row. The action would

start on the first lap when Weber got together

with Mark Bruce, the defending track

champion. Also involved was Dalton Baird.

Bruce and Baird were eliminated in the

accident and Weber had to go to the pits to

change a flat tire. When the race restarted,

McRoberts would be the leader, and Weber

was on the tail. Weber had to finish no worse

than second to secure the championship.

Weber began to work his way through the

field, and had gotten up to the sixth position

when he was caught up in an accident that

occurred right in front of him, ending his bid

for the championship. With Weber

eliminated, all McRoberts had to do was

finish strong. That was not a problem, as he

led all 15 laps to win his second feature of the

year! McRoberts was thrilled to win the race

and secure the Purestock Track

Championship. Victory lane was full of

smiles for the family and friends of Will

McRoberts. Following McRoberts across the

finish line was Ed Reynolds, Josh Frazee,

Houston Roark, and Rick Vance. Heat race

winners were McRoberts and Weber. The top

five finishers in the Ohio Valley

Screenprinters Purestocks were Will

McRoberts, Pat Weber, Rick Vance, Mark

Bruce, and Dalton Baird.
