"Badger finishes off exciting decade Sunday at Charter Raceway"

Beaver Dam,Wis., Sept. 16---The Badger Midget Auto Racing Association (BMARA) brings down the curtain down on another exciting season of racing with the running of the Billy Wood Championship Race, Sunday afternoon Sept. 20 at Charter Raceway Park. The event will also be the final of the decade for the longest active midget auto racing sanctioning organization in the country.

The millennium season for Badger kicked off on January 22, 2000, with Aaron Fiscus winning the 50-lap feature inside the Milwaukee Arena. Two hundred-one events later Charter Raceway will host the final event of the decade. Scott Hatton driving for Huston Solution Racing has clinched their fourth championship of the decade. The 40-lap feature will pay $3,000 to win, and $300 to start. Additional money will be paid to the leader of each feature lap. Joining Badger on the event schedule will be the Legends cars.

Eighteen tracks have sanctioned Badger events during the 2000's, led by Angell Park Speedway (Sun Prairie, Wis.), with 142 events. Charter Raceway has hosted 15 events, with other Badger events run at: Milwaukee (Wis.) Arena, Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track, Jacksonville (Ill.) Raceway, Oshkosh (Wis.) SpeedZone, Hales Corners Speedway (Franklin, Wis.), Grant County Speedway (Lancaster, Wis.), Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway, Pecatonica (Ill.) Motor Speedway, Farley (Iowa) Speedway, Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.), Wilmot (Wis.) Raceway, Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway, Langlade County Fairgrounds (Antigo, Wis.), Dodge County Fairgrounds (Beaver Dam,Wis.), Plymouth (Wis.) Dirt Track, and the Sandbox Arena at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wis.).

Hatton leads the 34 drivers who scored at least one feature win during the decade,with 31 feature victories. Brad Kuhn, and Jerry Coons Jr. each have 18 wins, with Davey Ray winning 16, and Dan Boorse claiming 14 feature victories to round out the top five. Hatton has paced 777 feature laps during the decade, while Coons tops all drivers with 23 fast time honors. Forty-one events were rained out during the ten-year span.

All of Hatton's 31 decade victories came driving for Huston Solution Racing, placing them first among the car owners for feature victories. Second is Ralph Wilke who has scored 26 feature victories, with four drivers. Wilke-PAK (15), Don Boorse (14), and Hans Lein (11) complete the top five.

Hatton's first title kicked off the decade, and came in one of the most dramatics point battles in Badger history. Hatton started the 2000 Pepsi Nationals feature, twelve points ahead of Boorse, and Kevin Doty, with Kevin Olson trailing buy two more points. Hatton's third place finish netted him the championship.

The decade also saw the retirement from active driving for Boorse and Randy Koch, the two drivers who dominated the 90's decade by winning seven of the ten championships. Boorse's final career feature win came on June 29, 2003, his 67th career at Angell Park Speedway, first on the all-time feature victory list. The saddest moment of the decade occurred on Tuesday morning August 16, 2005, when 1994 series champion Kevin Doty succumbed to injuries suffered in the Badger event two days earlier at Angell Park Speedway.

The Charter event will also determine the runner-up in series points, currently Brad Loyet leads Mike Hess by four markers going into the event. Hess had won three of the previous five features at the track.
